Are all the ED notifications going out snail mail?

Dang, mail takes forever to get to Iraq when it's not the Holidays. Awesome.

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
This really puts my mail situation into perspective. I was just complaining that our mail now gets here at 1:30 instead of noon, like it used to. Now I feel like an ass.ArmyHawkeye wrote:Dang, mail takes forever to get to Iraq when it's not the Holidays. Awesome.
Maybe if you emailed or called, it seems like they'd be able to do something for you in this situation.

Don't feel bad! I'll just wait a little bit longer and hopefully get good news!

Their email after going complete says to expect about an 8 week turn around. Not so much?

yup. Sometimes I forget I even applied to ND. But they've gotta start sending out (non-ED) decisions soon, right?....mistermister wrote:Their email after going complete says to expect about an 8 week turn around. Not so much?

I think one RD person reported being waitlisted earlier in the thread.beachbum wrote:yup. Sometimes I forget I even applied to ND. Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I often forget I applied there, at least it takes a tiny amount of pressure off my overall anxiousness. One less school to worry about. Hopefully one day I will just open my mail and find an acceptance, and it will be that much more surprising/exciting.beachbum wrote:yup. Sometimes I forget I even applied to ND. It'll be 10 weeks for me on Wednesday. Sigh. I'm visiting the inlaws in South Bend for Christmas... wonder if I'll get extra points if I show up at Christmas Eve mass?hurricane10 wrote:so... this is week eight for me. Any idea what's going on with Notre Dame?

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I noticed a few new LSN acceptances/rejections. Any RD answers among TLSers? When does NDLS admission office close down for Christmas? I imagine any mailings going out yesterday or today might still reach us by Christmas...

All the data points so far point to the earlier theory that there was a huge decrease in applications this year

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
Based on LSN numbers, there were almost 4 times as many applicants at this time last year, compared to this year. The theory is that the change from early action to early decison (binding) dissuaded many potential applicants. Notre Dame is my top choice, but I couldn't apply early decision for fear of less money and no bargaining power if I get accepted higher up. With fewer applicants, ND wants to see as much of its applicant as it can to try to safeguard its numbers, which means slower response time to RD applicants.

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
Does it worry anyone who has gotten in/waiting to hear back that there are so few applicants on LSN? It's not even in the top 30. The switch to binding ED explains scaring off the ED crowd, but why so few in general? Will this mean a decline in the quality of students because so few are applying compared to the peer schools?

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
ND still has as good a rep as it always had. People are prob not applying ED more b/c South Bend is not exactly the most exciting place to spend 3 years.andythefir wrote:Does it worry anyone who has gotten in/waiting to hear back that there are so few applicants on LSN? Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I heard ND was struggling with OCI... something like only 30 recruiters last year. I sort of doubt that's the reason people aren't applying (even if that is, in fact, true)... I get the feeling that a lot of people outside this board really don't do a lot of hardcore research when picking where to apply.
The number of recruiters though is pretty troubling, Notre Dame is at an automatic disadvantage because it doesn't have a feeder city other than Chicago, which already has 3 schools ranked above ND (Chicago, Northwestern, and UIUC).

Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
I don't really get that UIUC has Chicago as a feeder city and Notre Dame does not when Notre Dame is closer. Is the imaginary line on the map really that much of a barrier? Notre Dame out places UIUC in every stat I have encountered.hurricane10 wrote:I heard ND was struggling with OCI... something like only 30 recruiters last year. Re: Notre Dame 2014 applicants
UIUC has a higher concentration of graduates in Chicago I would think since they are a more regional school whereas Notre Dame grads are a bit more spread out. From the people I talked to at the LSAC forum, a decent amount of ND grads go to Cali along with other cities in the Midwest and Northeast...which is why I like Notre Dame since it seems to be more national than other schools in it's range.. it does have it's drawbacks though. Don't get me wrong, I'd much prefer to go to ND than Illinois but in terms of placement in Chicago, I would have to think that UIUC has a slight edge.
