I asked about a couple of things, GI BIll/Yellow ribbon scholarship, how many on the waitlist and a what my chances are. I also asked about reapplying for next year. I told her that I just graduated with a second BA and that I got my school's Humanities writing award at graduation and 4.0 GPA. The person who answered the phone was friendly and helpful. I wasn't sure if I was talking to a secretary or admissions officer but who ever answered the phone must have been able to make decisions.

UCLA regular admission.

There has been some WL-->A movement at the Holy Trinity of Yale Harvard and Stanford, mostly Harvard.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to Harvard's WL_ Accept group. There are low GPAs high GPAs and Low LSAT and high LSAT scores. Maybe they are leaning slightly toward High GPAs but there is no clear trend. In any event this ought to open up some spots at the rest of the T-14. I had hoped that the shuffeling would start by now but there hasn't been as much action as I expected.

It seems like a lot of this movement has been in the past 20ish days... Do you think this means some of the waitlist movement could still trickle down to Columbia, NYU, etc...?

I think Columbia probably stands to lose the most students from the Harvard WL->Accepted group, which will probably trickle down to NYU and so on. Unless those schools are already overenrolled.

Duke dropped some people today because their second deposit was due and class is full. I sent a LOCI yesterday but I think the decision had already been made. I was dumped from the waitlist too.
Here are the early returns from LSN:
Goozer 163 3.98 WL, Rejected 10-19-09 10-21-09 02-15-10 13 hours
2010LSApplicant 169 3.51 WL, Rejected 10-16-09 11-02-09 02-15-09 13 hours
lulumae U 160 3.2 WL, Rejected 10-27-09 12-15-09 11 hours
me 175, 2.98 WL-->rej applied 12/09

I am the splitterest if the bunch, but Goozer is a reverse splitter and lulumae is a URM with fairly low numbers for Duke. I'll check on LSN later in the week to try and see if any trend emerges. The Duke waitlist thread here has some tales of woe too.

Question for those with multiple waitlists...Can you accept a position off the waitlist ( and plan to go there) but take an offer from another higher ranked school if you get off that waitlist later in the summer? I know you would forfeit deposit. Thanks.

Well, I am glad you are settled/settling on a law school! Are you going to hold out for Vandy? Whatever you do, please send some of your good fortune my way!

That is most people's plan if you are on multiple waitlists. I have heard of schools that ask you to drop all other applications/waitlist when offered a seat but unless they were offering a scholarship I'd pretty much tell them I am not making any more commitment than any other student. You'd forfit the deposit if you switched schools.

Columbia has been dropping people from their waitlist. Almost 90% of those dropped have been below the median LSAT score. GPAs are all over the place, with about half above and half below the median. No one has been picked up from the waitlist. Needless to say this summer is not turning out the way I expected. I thought it would be the year of the waitlist shuffle. It is turning out to be the year of the waitlist wait.

I doubt it, maybe, but I don't think so. I can't give up 60k from WUSTL. PS-It's my birthday today, so as a birthday wish, I give all my luck to all the WLers going through hell right now. WLs suck much balls!

PENN has been plucking a few people from their waitlists. They are only taking high GPA people and those with high LSATs are being rejected along with low LSATs, and average LSATs.

I survived the latest round of dumpings from the WL, probably because of my phone calls, extra LOR written specifically for Penn, emails, etc. I probably won't get in anyway.

Northwestern is also picking up a few here and there.
GPAs are all over the place but LSAT scores are fairly high among the accepted. I kept the info about how long since they were accepted. Northwestern is not dropping anyone lately. Frankly I don't understand why the school benefits from dropping people from their waitlists, except that it is just polite to let people know. I would want to keep my options as wide open as possible. OTOH is might be fun to be a powerful adcom, knowing that some poor applicant's future is in my hand, and then crush them daily for my own amusement.

Northwestern's median LSAT is 170 and everyone admitted is above the median. Congrats to taw856 who might have the lowest GPA in the T-14. I will be right there with you if I get in.

Georgetown update. One person: Madmob
was accepted fronm the waitlist at G-town witha 170 3.89.
He was offered a $85,500 scholarship. He put his data in yesterday but I don't know if they offered it recently or if he just got around to updating his account. Most people are not getting $$$ from the waitlist but G-town has given money to at least 5 people from the waitlist this year and did so in previous years too. When I spoke to them they encouraged me to go to their PT program but I wanted FT only.

The data from LSN shows that Duke is dropping students with GPAs less then their median. They are dropping people without regard to LSAT score since about half the people dropped are above the median and half below. Only one WL-->rejection student had a GPA above the median. The one person accepted was probably accepted ED for next cycle.

Since I posted about NU above, they have let in one or two more students. Northwestern is one of the very few t-14 schools that is admitting people with high LSAT scores from the waitlist. Most of the others are admitting people with high GPAs. I called this morning to ask about my status and to let them know that in a few days I will be purchasing a home near my soon to be law school. Once that happens I will ask to be taken off of the waitlist. Here are the numbers of people from LSN that were admitted this cycle from the waitlist:

Shellbelle 171 3.3 WL, Accepted A
raspberryfruitcake WL, Accepted A
caleng 170 3.2 WL, Accepted A
jml8756 175 3.67 WL, Accepted A
taw856 U 170 2.77 WL, Accepted A
worldpiece17 170 3.3 WL, Accepted A
ainzabo7 UN 163 3.7 WL, Rejected
fl0w UN 161 3.3 WL, Rejected

edit: Someone pointed out to me that most of the WL--> accepteds here are female. Not sure if that is by chance or intentional.
