Assuming this is true, why would you post it on here? You know perfectly well that there are plenty of people who are dying to get in and actually go to Emory.

I have to agree. If you want to hold up a slot just to see if you could get in, that's your choice. However, posting about it on TLS is a douchebag move.

I don't think their post implied that they wouldn't attend Emory-- I read it that Emory is the school that, if accepted, would give them a hard decision (the saga). I'm sure many Emory waitlisters have deposited elsewhere and are at least pretty excited about that option...

The standard of etiquette is that you don't talk about your interest for your back up in a forum that is currently in the middle of a waitlist lottery. It just incites people. We all have backups but we all would genuinely love to attend Emory, at the right price.

Also, when I asked you to withdraw, my comment was actually directed more toward your post in Brooklyn more than Emory:

Are you serious? You just got on the guy for having an open application at a school you want, you did the same thing to me last week. You seriously have some problems if you take it so personally anytime someone posts "I applied to emory". It discourages the purpose of this thread and is just rude in general. Let him do what he wants with his admissions cycle, and you should be encouraging people for posting information about their cycle because it not only helps current applicants but future applicants as well.

Also going through his posts and posting how he is considering a different school in a thread where you KNOW someone from admissions posts in, and in a thread where you've ALREADY said that someone should out a poster to ad comms is just a low class. THEN you have the audacity to tell someone what is proper etiquette.

2. I call out people who show either no interest in the school the thread is dedicated to or else a commitment, not interest, in another school. Ex. A verbal commitment to enroll.

3. Ethan can search his post history just like me. That is the risk you take. This is a free and open forum. Watch what you say if you are worried. I can't call attention to what is not there. And I said it would be funny if some one tattled on you, not that I would. Notice: I STILL HAVEN'T! I wouldn't. The funny part is that it WOULD be so juvenile.

2012, come on, you are making a pretty serious backup plan yourself, one that also includes commitments. People depositing at multiple schools isn't that uncommon. I think getting mad at someone because of their personal situation with admissions is kind of pointless.

This is what I'm talking about. BOTH people you've called out have said they're still considering emory, yet you ignored it attacked their character for not doing what you thought they should do. This isn't your place to police other people around. Stop acting like you're some white knight of application integrity.

Since you like putting people's stuff on blast, why don't you explain why haven't YOU withdrawn when you've already signed a lease in Athens? I'm willing to bet the reasons are the same reasons why me and that other poster are leaving our emory apps open. Or do you get some sort of special exception?

There's almost no practical harm that will befall a Emory WL-applicant because someone else is admitted off the waitlist and doesn't immediately withdraw. They have 48 hours to make a decision.

And even assuming that they do deposit for the sake of using Emory as a back-up, the admissions committee takes this into account. It's not like they immediately stop admitting WL's because they hit their intended class size. They know attrition happens...

This isn't Emory's first rodeo...they know what they're doing

I think it's one thing to say "lol, douchebag" if someone comes on this thread and posts, "I have no interest in attending but I'm going to hold on to a spot." I think it's quite another to stalk every person on this thread and cross reference their posts on other threads. That's just creepy.
