In theory, the amount is $65k, but I read a PowerPoint (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 4-2lg-FXfA) that said that after taxes, the amount is about $45k that is actually paid to the loan provider.
I enlisted for an initial term of 3 years for the $65k SLRP, the full $65k was applied to my loans. Come tax time each year, I received a tax document showing additional income of about $21k for the annual SLRP payment as taxable income. I then reenlisted for another term which gave me the Post 9/11 GI Bill at 100%. Keep in mind, I enlisted in 2005, so the stipulations for the SLRP may have changed. I'm currently finishing up my Army Recruiting duty and we have all but eliminated the option for SLRP except in the most rare of cases.

You must complete one full year on AD before you can apply for SLRP.

SLRP actual payments $21666 each year so far. Of that amount 20% is taken for federal taxes with about $17300 spread among 3 sets of loans. Deployed while last payment made results in 9/12 of the amount being tax free. (deployed 9 months) SLRP folks still withhold 20%. :(

Have not met anyone not getting the full third each time.

IBR payments bumps up with SLRP extra 21k income. IBR goes down with 9 months deployment.

The text of the statute authorizing SLRP is here: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/2171. Many people who take advantage of SLRP probably get the full $21666 each time, but there are those of us out there in the strange in-between land... As I said, the statute caps the maximum payment to 33 and 1/3 of each eligible loan, or $1,500 (whichever is greater). There is also a somewhat helpful powerpoint for AF folks on this issue: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/75654998/TJ ... m-_JA-SLRP_

Not yet.
FYI I know a student at my school (in Southern California) who was selected for the internship already. I believe she only heard back a few days ago though.

Would reserve enlisted or active duty prior service lower my age for Commissioning purposes?

Is the Age Limit for Army/Navy JAG 35 or 42?

I read 35 on the message board, but on the Army Website it reads

"Applicants must be able to serve 20 years of active commissioned service before reaching the age of 62. Thus, for most applicants, the age requirement is be under the age of 42 at the time of entry onto active duty."

Navy Website:

"(b) be younger than 42 years of age at the time you begin active duty;"

I submitted my Air Force JAG application last Thursday (the 13th) and have still not heard anything regarding the interview. The instructions say that I should have been contacted in 24-48 hours. Any previous/current applicants have this problem? Any advice?

For the April DAP Board? If so, I am afraid you might have missed the deadline on this Board because all applications AND interviews must be completed by March 15th - not just the applications.

Well that is unfortunate. Going off the Air Force website: "The deadline for completion of the online application and hiring interview is the first of the month that the board meets." - http://www.airforce.com/jag/entry_progr ... w_to_apply

Maybe I misinterpreted that. Also unfortunate because the only reason I submitted it so close to the application deadline was that I had an on campus information interview scheduled with the Captain that was cancelled due to him getting sick. I was waiting for it to get rescheduled (as per the email I received telling me I would be contacted with rescheduling details) only to never have it be rescheduled. Very frustrating experience thus far.

Tried calling the Captain, but no answer. I will try again tomorrow. Thanks for the response, even if it is not what I was looking for.

I was offered a position and accepted the offer. Anyone know how long they usually take to confirm receipt of an acceptance?

Don't give up just yet then. In years past (the April Board is my 4th Board), the deadline has always been the 15th of the month prior to when the Board meets. Due to the new online application system, the date might have been pushed back as you quoted from the AF website. At this point, I would double check with JAX on the application deadline and also call every SJA close to you try and set up an interview before April 1st. No point in calling the Captain back because he can't interview you.

@paulmiller13

Whoops - just read the AF JAG website. You might be out of luck, depending on how a SJA decides to handle your late request for an interview. The 15 days after March 15th gives the interviewing SJA time to write up a summary/recommendation of you as a candidate and rank you against the other interviewees. Depending on how busy he or she is, the SJA might can squeeze you in and write a summary on you before April 1st.

"How To Apply

Selection boards are held in April, October and December. Applications are accepted through our online application processing system. You must also schedule a hiring interview with a Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) at any Air Force Base (AFB) through the online application processing system. Take steps to schedule interviews as early as possible—before the 15th of the month, prior to the month of the board you wish to meet. The deadline for completion of the online application and hiring interview is the first of the month that the board meets. After the interview, the SJA will prepare a report that is forwarded to HQ USAF/JAX."

When I interviewed (this was before the online system), the office assistant told me that the 15th deadline was just the deadline to schedule the interview, but the interview could be anytime before the 1st (or at least the 27th when she was going to send the package off).

You should still call and see if the nearest base can fit you in.

From everything I have seen my understanding is that with the new online system, the only thing absolutely required by the 15th is the submission of the application. My own experience has been all over the place though. At first I was under the impression that the interview must be completed by the 15th, so I called the base early in February to schedule my interview, and they put me down for for March 19th, but stated that my application must be in by the 15th. They then called me back two or so weeks later cancelling my interview and saying that under the new system they weren't supposed to schedule interviews before the online submission was complete. When I submitted my app the first week of March, they called me two days later and scheduled my interview for the 20th and stated that there were several other people coming in that week as well. So, it seems there is no requirement that interviews be done by the 15th, but my guess is that it probably depends on the particular base and what their schedules are like. I wouldn't assume they have forgotten about you just yet.

After everyone has chimed in, I like your odds of making this Board in time. You did submit before the 15th and now just waiting to interview. Get on scheduling an interview ASAP.

Just as a comment: as a general rule, in there is absolutely nothing special about the OCI informational "interview." In my experience (and having done this at two bases) it is some first or second assignment JAG from the nearest base legal office. We show up, talk about life as a JAG, give the "whole person concept" answer in respect to questions about class rank cut offs, etc. Because it is often a huge time suck, it can be a mixed bag in terms of the quality of who shows up. There is nothing that the OCI JAG can offer that cannot be similarly gained by calling the legal office and asking to set up time to speak to one the JAGs about their experiences (or asking to come to base to see the legal office).

There is no direct connection between that OCI JAG and the SJA interview/application process. If someone was an outlier (outstanding or a hot mess) at the OCI interview and I knew they were coming to interview, I would pass that on to the SJA, but there is really no impact, nor is it a prerequisite.

Thanks for all the feedback. I was able to contact an AFB and schedule an interview. I am under the impression that there was a lot of back up and the office is very busy, hence the delay. There was no mention of being late in my conversation, so that was good. It would seem the 15th deadline is for the online application and not the interview itself, but maybe not the case depending on your interviewer and/or selected AFB. If I have to apply again, I will definitely avoid this issue and submit everything much earlier.
