I think, but I could be wrong since I haven't had done it, it's 2-3 letters of rec, and they generally should be people that know your academic work, which usually tends to be undergraduate teachers. I think once in a while letters of rec from employers are helpful, but usually only for people that have been out of undergrad for more that just a couple years.Dstunna wrote:How many letters of recommendation should we submit with our applications? Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
I think this depends on factors that are unique to each individual applicant, but submitting 2, perhaps 3, seems to be the most common approach. Many on TLS say that there are rapidly diminishing returns for additional LORs that do not add new information to the application. That is to say, submitting 2 strong LORs would be a better strategy than submitting 2 strong letters and 1 mediocre letter (John was in my class and made an A, he's a very hard worker, he would be an asset to any TTT law school).Dstunna wrote:How many letters of recommendation should we submit with our applications? Experts on these fora would probably tell you UG instructors are the best people to ask for LORs since they have observed your performance in an academic setting. Employer/supervisor recs are probably more beneficial for applicants who have significant WE,and less beneficial for applicants without significant WE. Asking a famous politico or some judge your dad knows but who doesn't know very much about you as a person is usually not a good idea.
Academic LORs > others, especially if a lowish UG GPA is an issue.

I have 1 academic, 1 professional and 1 political (that splits between professional and academic) LOR.

Hedging my bets. Applying to European PhD programs. This law school thing is killing me. I took June in an effort to sneak off of the UT waitlist. We will wait and see.basedvulpes wrote:So how does everyone else kill time when you're not wasting your life away on TLS?

Also very disappointed with the results of this poll. I don't even wanna be ITT with all these noobs. *drops mic and walks away*
I'm a Zacbro fan, but his OP game is kinda weak. We really need a new poll (although Zacbro's totally right about his gray disappointment)

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Happy Monday! One week to go!
Also SCOTUS releases new opinions at 10 - maybe Obamacare today? They've only got three days of releasing opinions left (today, Thursday, and next Monday), and Obamacare and the gay marriage one are still outstanding, in addition to a bunch of others. Fingers crossed for a big ruling today to keep me busy at work!
