A new logic game for you...

Postby The Gentleman » Thu Sep 23, 2010 3:37 pm

After doing some of the games written by Steve @ LSAT Blog, I decided to try my hand at creating one of my own. It was definitely a time consuming process, so I hope you guys enjoy it!

Exactly seven actors, Andrew, Clara, Darwin, Feeney, Helga, Laverne, and Manuel, arrived at a movie premiere, one after another. The seven actors arrived consecutively and no two actors arrived at the same time. Before they arrived, each actor was nominated for exactly one of two different awards, gold or silver. The following conditions apply:
- No two actors nominated for gold awards arrived consecutively.
- Clara arrived before both Andrew and Laverne.
- Darwin, who was nominated for a gold award, arrived third.
- Andrew was nominated for a gold award.
- Clara was not nominated for a gold award only if Laverne was not nominated for a silver award.
- Laverne did not arrive seventh.

1) Which one of the following is an acceptable list of the actors’ arrivals and respective nominations, from first to last?

A) Clara (Gold), Helga (Silver), Darwin (Gold), Laverne (Silver), Andrew (Gold), Feeney (Silver), and Manuel (Silver)
B) Clara (Gold), Laverne (Silver), Andrew (Gold), Manuel (Silver), Darwin (Gold), Feeney (Silver), and Helga (Gold)
C) Andrew (Gold), Clara (Silver), Darwin (Gold), Helga (Silver), Manuel (Silver), Laverne (Gold), and Feeney (Silver)
D) Feeney (Silver), Clara (Silver), Darwin (Gold), Helga (Silver), Andrew (Gold), Manuel (Silver), and Laverne (Gold)
E) Helga (Gold), Clara (Silver), Darwin (Gold), Manuel (Silver), Laverne (Silver), Andrew (Gold), Feeney (Silver)

2) What is the fewest number of actors that could have arrived before Andrew?

A) 1
B) 2
C) 3
D) 4
E) 5

3) If Clara arrived second, then which one of the following must be true?

A) Manuel arrived neither immediately before nor immediately after Darwin.
B) Helga arrived before Laverne.
C) Andrew arrived seventh.
D) The actor who arrived first was nominated for a gold award..
E) Exactly four of the seven actors were nominated for gold awards.

4) Each one of the following statements must be false EXCEPT:

A) Exactly five of the actors were nominated for silver awards.
B) Exactly three of the actors that arrived after Darwin were nominated for gold awards.
C) Clara arrived fifth.
D) Clara was nominated for a silver award and Manuel was nominated for a gold award.
E) Exactly three actors arrived between Darwin and Laverne, regardless of whether Darwin arrived before or after Laverne.

5) If Andrew did not arrive last, then which one of the following cannot be true?

A) Feeney arrived before Helga.
B) Exactly four of the actors were nominated for gold awards.
C) Laverne arrived before Darwin.
D) Manuel was nominated for a silver award.
E) Clara was nominated for a silver award.

6) If Feeney arrived before Helga but after Manuel, then which one of the following statements would provide enough information to determine the actors’ exact order of arrival and the award nomination each received?

A) Feeney arrived fourth, and exactly three of the actors were nominated for gold awards.
B) Feeney arrived sixth, and exactly four of the actors were nominated for gold awards.
C) Manuel arrived second, and exactly four of the actors were nominated for silver awards.
D) Clara arrived fourth, and no more than three of the actors were nominated for silver awards.
E) Clara arrived first, and exactly three of the actors were nominated for silver awards.

It looks like a solid effort to me.
I'm sitting in class right now (I know bad to be on TLS), but I'll give it a shot later.
