Warm ups

Post by thomas85 » Fri Aug 27, 2010 4:02 am

Im finding that I do my worst on the first section, no matter what it is. Does anyone have any warm up drill suggestions before I get started? Reading books? Crosswords? Chess? I don't want to do any practice sections/questions because I might run into something that will frustrate me or put me in the wrong state of mind before I start the test but I need to do something to get my brain moving.

I know you said you don't want to do practice sections but a lot of people have suggested doing a game, leisurely w/ no time limit & not checking whether you got the questions right, just being confident in that your answers are correct. Or maybe redo one that you've already done just to get your mind going? It definitely seems like a good way to warm up the morning of the actual thing.

I'm going to try translating some Latin before I start doing practice tests now. I have no idea if that sort of brain action will correlate, but we'll see!

Do an easy logic game in 10 minutes or so, ie basic sequencing.

I'm learning that I absolutely need to warm-up before a PT, preferably a few (6-7) LR questions to get my mind in logic mode. Without warming up, I tend to freeze up in the first section and not approach the section the way I normally would, regardless of whether it's an easy game or easy LR/RC.

I don't THINK I'm struggling during the first section but I do think warming up with a game you've done before or 4-5 LR questions helps.

I think using an old game (or two) you've previously done. . .maybe even with a lenient time limit (someone else mentioned 10 minutes) is a good idea. . .I plan to do a section of each, like a short RC, LR and AR right before, because I find my scores get better on each section as I go along, no matter what the sections are. . .
