The next 10 actual, official LSAT practice tests
Is this book worth purchasing? It was published in 2007 - I have been told that some question formatting has since changed, and I would be better served with buying individual tests from the last 3 years. But those are MUCH more expensive (the equivalent for 10 exams would be $80, compared to $12 for this book on Amazon).
What do you guys recommend? The link for the book, if you aren't sure what I'm describing, is here:

Definitely worth it to buy this book. 10 PT's packaged in one book for $12? What have you got to lose?

Re: The next 10 actual, official LSAT practice tests
I am in the process of studying and bought the Next 10 book and the Even More book, I also purchased the 12 most recent tests from amazon. If you buy from Amazon they are running a 4 for 3 deal on the official tests so you can get a pretty good deal. Depending on how serious you want to study, it's good to have both.

Re: The next 10 actual, official LSAT practice tests
I have the book but I am thinking the same... I completed the first book already, doing just individual sections, rather than whole PTs and every time I improved on something, the fact that it's probably much easier than the more recent PTs popped up in my head, killing my hopes a little bit. The only advice I can offer is to use the old ones to get acquainted with lsat and question types and think of it as progressing towards the hard ones as you get closer to the test date. In my opinion, you can't lose anything by more practice.

I'm impressed by the speed and value of these responses.
I'd also be interested in hearing from people who already took the LSAT and got 170+. Was this book sufficient?

does anybody have any input on the value of doing the out of print PTs, 1-6, 8, 17?

This is pretty random but I actually am looking to sell a mint copy of "The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests" ISBN 0979305055. I bought it from my local Borders when I was thinking of prepping on my own. I'm now in a LSAT course where all the PrepTests are supplied so I have no more use of this.
If you're interested, PM me and we can discuss.

I decided I'm just going to purchase the newer exams - someone PM-ed me about a website where you can just download and print all of them. That's cheaper than buying them individually on amazon, even used, when you have pay (and wait!) for shipping.

Yea I'm doing the most recent ones too, but I was wondering if the oldest ones were somewhat inferior... I feel like I've heard they're not as good because the test-writers' style has changed

Yes, absolutely get the book. I went from a 172 to a 180 using just the official PrepTests as material. If you're already scoring near there, see if you can get by with self prep and free resources.
The question stems in LR are somewhat different, the RC sections don't have one with two passages, and the AR have fewer "hybrid" games, but they're still by far the best/cheapest way to self-prep. Try to take as many of the official PrepTests as you can before your test day, working from the oldest to newest.

Even though you have almost made up your mind, I would still recommend that you practice older questions for better exposure to different types of questions that may show up again in future exams.P'11 wrote:I decided I'm just going to purchase the newer exams - someone PM-ed me about a website where you can just download and print all of them. It was not sufficient. It was necessary though.P'11 wrote:I'm impressed by the speed and value of these responses.

Lame joke I know.
I def recommend it. The more questions you can get your eyes on, the better off you are. The newer prep tests will only get you so far. You can start out with the book, then progress to the newer tests as you get closer to the real thing. That's what I did (170+).
Plus, as you may have heard, the June exam had a throw back game reminiscent of the older 90s games. Just because these questions are older, does not mean they arent worthy. Especially for just $12.
I've heard some of the games on some tests are direct variations of games on previous tests. Again, familiarity with games from 03-07 cant hurt and I imagine they will help.

Re: The next 10 actual, official LSAT practice tests
I suppose this would depend on where you are in your LSAT prep. Yeah, in style and content, they're poorer facsimiles of the current LSAT's; but for very general exposure and practice, they still should be good. For instance, even if the underfunded linear game in PrepTest 3 may never show show up again, it'd still be useful for practice of of diagramming skills.ert335 wrote:does anybody have any input on the value of doing the out of print PTs, 1-6, 8, 17?
I've also heard of other TLS'ers using the sections from PrepTest 1-10 as stand-in's as their practice's "experimental section." So this way, they don't waste sections from more valuable PrepTests.
I mainly got them so I wouldn't feel so OCD about completing my PrepTest collection.

Re: The next 10 actual, official LSAT practice tests
I recommend using the Next 10 Actual, Official Book for learning early in your prep. It's a relatively cheap source of exams ($20 brand new on Amazon). These exams are recent enough to be very relevant, but not so new that you'd want to save them for full-length timed exams.
I know it's the 3rd book of 10 PrepTests, and when it comes to movies, the 3rd of a trilogy often fails to deliver.
However, LSAC has truly outdone themselves with this one. It's even better than the other books of 10. Will buy when it comes out on Blu-ray.

Re: The next 10 actual, official LSAT practice tests
This is what I did. I put a lot of value in adding the 5th section to simulate the real LSAT. I obviously didn't want to cut the newest tests into pieces so I used the older ones.Precessional wrote:I've also heard of other TLS'ers using the sections from PrepTest 1-10 as stand-in's as their practice's "experimental section." Also, the logic games on the old tests are more difficult IMHO. I think the old tests are worth buying just to get practice on tough LG puzzles so the newer ones seem easy by comparison.
