Hobbit/LOTR

Assassin series by Hobb

Ender's books (despite their author being a douchebag)

Stranger in a Strange Land

The first three dragon books by Anne McCaffrey

Every book written by Douglas Adams

Every book written by Terry Pratchett

Why do I recommend these books instead of good literature that will expand your mind and (with the exception of Douglas Adams and possibly to a lesser degree Pratchett/Stranger) make you a better person? Simple - first, I'm a huge speculative fiction geek, and second (and more importantly) these books are easy and relaxing to read (except SOF&I, which isn't relaxing because Martin is a f***ing murderer).
Not sure I can call you a nerd since I know all these books and authors.

+1. If you can only read one, make it Blood Meridian.
Blood meridian is not a good starting point, in my opinion. I'd say All the Pretty Horses, then onto BM. It's just so dense for the uninitiated. Just my two cents.

No judging here. Be nice to spleen; he's delicate.

The books thread is doing a group reading of Yiddish Policeman's Union if you're a fan of his work.

Is it as good as K&C because that is literally my favorite book.

Completely different, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Only movies or long shows. You need to save everything less than an hour so you can ignore studying and plausibly claim "just one more and then I'll study [insert topic here]"

Very true. I have so many 20-minute episodes of things backlogged for that exact reason. Maybe one quick episode of Archer before I really buckle down...
