Wait, you mean I have to work more than forty hours per week to make $160,000 per year? I'm shocked! This totally changes my perception of big law and the legal profession in general! I really regret going to law school now!

Also, considering all the other bullshit that comes with it, it's funny how some of the idiots here only hear "$160,000."

It's a matter of priorities. If you want to make a big salary, you have to pay the price. My old man was a corporate officer and worked 60-70 hours to rake it in, he was also miserable.
There are still a lot of people out there (including me) who would love an opportunity to work in biglaw.

Yeah, but the $60 lunch budgets, business class flights, yacht cruises, free breakfasts and dinners, limo service, bonuses, bar stipends and gym memberships are why it actually doesn't.

My dad works 70-80 hour weeks, loves it. The trick is to work a job you like.minnbills wrote:It's a matter of priorities. If you want to make a big salary, you have to pay the price. My old man was a corporate officer and worked 60-70 hours to rake it in, he was also miserable.

P.S. would love a link to someone who makes a ton of money without having to work crazy hard for it. *Not holding breath*

I do know two guys in finance who've "made it" and don't work many hours at this point. They paid their dues though, I'm sure.

They may not accomplish much (anything?), but they work like dogs doing it.

If you want to be rich, nut up and start your own business. Don't bitch cuz you can't achieve your dreams of wealth as a salaried monkey.

Re: WHY BIGLAW SUCKS.
i believe dood explained in an old thread that he's more concerned with efficiency than perfect spelling and grammar. honestly i cant blame him, this is a message board. same with email. i've emailed so many bosses (not law firm mind you, but white collar) who didn't write complete sentences, or capitalize, or any of that. i even saw a "natch" once.Real Madrid wrote:Where did you learn your awesome writing skills?dood wrote:u have no idea wat u talking about. but even if i could explain it, u wont believe me until u experience it for ur self. but u'r just wrong, so wrong.Real Madrid wrote:Yeah, but the $60 lunch budgets, business class flights, yacht cruises, free breakfasts and dinners, limo service, bonuses, bar stipends and gym memberships are why it actually doesn't.

It starts with the main protagonist stating that he has not started law school yet, but the practicing lawyer later states that the protagonist has already gone to law school. Continuity, hello!
