Let's share links to info and data that are helpful

Post by tlslsnlsp » Tue Feb 15, 2011 10:48 pm

one of my favorite things to do on TLS is click on the id of a users who give advice about law school and legal employment only to find out (through his/her past posts) that they are 0Ls or 1Ls (legal employment advice), which is fine if they're giving advice based on data, but don't seem to be doing so. Most probably, they're just regurgitating what they've seen on TLS, which was probably from an uninformed 0L or 1L to begin with.

Every once in a while, though, someone swoops in with a link to data or a creditable source (at least more creditable than a 0L's opinion), and I think to myself "now THIS is helpful." Why don't we try to compile and share these links/charts/data on this thread?

here are some links I've collected on TLS that I personally felt were good pieces of information:

http://www.chambers-associate.com/Pract ... -Summaries What exactly DOES a biglaw lawyer do?
http://pdfserver.amlaw.com/nlj/law%20sc ... page12.pdf How top law schools fared w/ NJL250 firm jobs in 2009
http://www.law.com/img/nlj/charts/composite.pdf Chart showing employment outcomes (what exactly does the rest - those who don't work at a NJL250 firm - of the class do at xyz school?!)
http://www.law.georgetown.edu/career/pronunciations/ How do you say this firm's name?
http://www.lawdragon.com/ Legal news and Lawyer profiles.
http://www.nalpdirectory.com/ Look up firms, what OCIs they participate in, starting salaries, how many associates they take on, etc.
http://www.martindale.com/ Find attorneys and firms by city, name, etc. Good for finding small and midsize firms as well as large firms. Hopefully everyone is already familiar with it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/busin ... ef=general Article calling law schools a scam based on employment situation vs. tuition. --LinkRemoved-- blogger giving his/her commentary on the now-famous nyt article.
http://www.nalp.org/research Loads of great statistics for legal employment in general, hiring trends, salary data, recruitment/OCI statistics.
http://www.chambersandpartners.com/USA
http://www.vault.com (underrated source of information, IMHO)
http://www.abajournal.com/ (often has articles on law firms)
http://careers.abovethelaw.com/

I'll think of more soon.

Keep them coming and I'll edit them into this first post for easy access.

Great idea. The groupthink on this website is annoying and misinformed. Thanks for changing the trend.

Disregard my valuable link at your peril.

Srsly, tho, Chambers, NALP, ATL, and TLS are probably all you need. Vault maybe.
