When to move to law school
I am starting law school in the fall this year, and orientation starts in mid-August, classes a week after that. When is the best time to move to your new city? Is it possible to get a head start on the job hunt if you move in before classes start, or is that just a waste of time?

Maybe I am clueless, but job hunt? You mean for during the school year? I didn't think many people worked while in school! Which would lead me to believe you probably don't need a head start (to partially answer your question).
I would be interested to know the answer to when you should move in, as well. LSC recommends you move in a little early, especially if you are moving to a city you have never been to before. It is probably a good idea to move in early, get your room/apartment set up so you are properly situated for when semester starts, and tour the city/town.

I'm planning on moving in mid July, although I might move as early as June.

Re: When to move to law school
I thought about moving in as soon as I graduate from undergrad (in mid May) so that I could find some kind of summer job and maybe make a little bit of extra money before things start up. The problem is I would like to have a roommate, and I am worried that finding a roommate who wants to move in as early as me might be hard.
The lease for my current apartment, where I attend undergrad, ends in May. So it's either move in with the parentals for a few months or find a guy who wants to move in same time as me.

My plan is to move in mid- to late-July.
I'd be interested in any words of wisdom from the 1L's on the forum.

Re: When to move to law school
I moved in Aug 1, orientation week began mid august. I felt I had sufficient time to get adjusted to the new situation, but certainly not enough time to become familiar with the city in any real sense. Would it have been better to move in July? Maybe, but I didn't know anyone or have a job so that just didn't make much sense to me.

I plan on moving late-May/early-June. Hopefully I'll be able to find a job for the summer, but mainly, I want to get the hell out of my city.
