I have nothing current and no digital camera so I was just curious how important it is/ if they will take it a few days late. I have someone who can take it tomorrow hopefully, but idk if it will be ready by 5 PM. Does anyone know if they are really strict?annaliesman wrote:I just submitted my linked in pic and called it a dayskimmilk wrote:So how required is the glass menagerie photo? Will they accept late photos?

Email and politely ask for another day. I'm sure it'll be fine. Worst case, they put a gargoyle instead of your picture.

No it doesn't really matter. It's nice to have but no one cares. I have yet to open mine.

Buy a coat when you get in the city, dress in layers, accept the fact that you're going to look like a fluff ball (along with everyone else) for a few months. It's not that bad - y'all will be alright.lebongenre wrote:+1lobstermash wrote:who here is an expert on braving chicago winters? we should get some advice rolling to help us newbies prepare

Is anyone planning on living in Vue53 next year? Debating between that and Shoreland, and would rather be around other law students

I think they just cut their rates to entice more people to move in although you can no longer see the rate online and have to call to check.InfinitelyStressed wrote:Is anyone planning on living in Vue53 next year? Debating between that and Shoreland, and would rather be around other law students

My 2010 MacBook Pro is sorely in need of an upgrade, from reading the IT memo on laptops, anything we should particularly pay attention to? Would love to stick with a Mac, sounds like IT's takeaways are:
- big screen is good
- a mac might need a wired ethernet adapter?
- extended warranty
Anything else UChicago-specific to keep in mind? Sounds like I'm probably just going to buy the current version of the 15" macbook pro I have right now.

I had the same takeaways from the memo and then agonized a LOT (for no good reason) about what to get and ended up getting a 13" macbook pro that met or exceeded all of the specs they wanted. Your plan sounds like mine minus the angst!Necho2 wrote:My 2010 MacBook Pro is sorely in need of an upgrade, from reading the IT memo on laptops, anything we should particularly pay attention to? I got a Macbook air and have had no problems. It won't matter: you guys are looking too much into it. Relax . I went smaller for portability and less weight but it's all a preference.

We're OLs, it's our job to overly stress about things that could tangentially impact our law school performanceKMart wrote:I got a Macbook air and have had no problems. Thanks for this, that's exactly what I was looking for, definitely saved me 30 bucks that the IT department seems to think I needed to spend on a wired ethernet adapter.

Oh definitely, no judgment! Mostly surprised that IT was going the "wired ethernet" route Glad it was helpful

Re: UChicago c/o 2019
Purely anecdotal but two of my classmates' Windows laptops broke down during a final, so I'd get a decent laptop. I'm really happy with my 15" Macbook Pro but frankly, it's kinda heavy and expensive.Necho2 wrote:My 2010 MacBook Pro is sorely in need of an upgrade, from reading the IT memo on laptops, anything we should particularly pay attention to?
