I have a suggestion for the original post. We could split up the class by section. Here's what we have so far:
Section 1:

(hopefully someone else soon)
Section 2:
Accountanon
AshleySchaefferBMW
p1921
BigCityDreams
ilikebaseball
cutieluby

Where's the cheapest place to order books? We can't rent them, and I'm just trying to make this as painless as possible because its 12 freakin books lol

I looked at Amazon, half.com, and the B&N price- ordered most off Amazon; however most of the LRW books were cheaper to buy used from B&N... good luck, it took me awhile to get the best price for good quality.ilikebaseball wrote:Where's the cheapest place to order books? All of mine including shipping (which is 3.99 per book if you dont pick up and B&N) equalled about $890. I probably could have gotten some books for a little cheaper, but I tried to avoid the the books that were heavily marked up or damaged.

Crim Law believe?? Cant you just rent and return and reorder if you wanted to, definitely cheaper...I just went the buy route because I wanted to be able to write as much as I wanted in them.

Re: SMU Dedman Law Class of 2018
Crim Law is your one semester class (as is Con Law in the Spring).
On a related note, I know they (at least used to) give you an anticipated book budget for the entire year. Don't be shocked when you eat a tremendous amount of that budget in the fall (like $800-1400), because your book expenses come spring will be significantly lower (200-400).
One more thing: Before you buy supplements, check them out first to see if you like them. The library has them at the circulation desk, and for Civ Pro, Prof. Thornburg keeps a shelf of them outside her office.

have y'all already figured out the binder of LRW stuff you need to buy from AlphaGraphics the strip center on Mockingbird? for some reason some of the new kids had trouble with that last fall
and the library will let you take their supplements home for 24 hours now so you can really test them out

Re: SMU Dedman Law Class of 2018
I went the rental route and paid $167 out the door with shipping for all required case books for section 2. I went the rental route because Amazon does full semester extensions (for a lower price than the initial semester rental.) For instance, I rented the Tort case book for around $36, due 12/18/15. I can do an extension for $30 any time before the 12/18/15 due date. The new due date would then be late May. I expect my total textbook costs to be around $300 (not counting supplements.) [Edit: total costs of $300 for the ENTIRE YEAR]
Regarding condition upon receipt, only two of them had highlighting and notes. One of them had very minimal pencil notes and a few underlines. I went ahead and re-rented replacements for the two. They should arrive today. If the new ones are acceptable, I can return the previous. I suppose the new copies could be even worse, but if that's the case, I will return and re-rent again. It seems like a hassle, but Amazon does free shipping both ways, so no skin off my back but a little time. For the costs some are paying this semester, I don't mind printing and taping a few extra shipping labels. Lol.

No need for slacks. Khakis or jeans will be more than sufficient.Accountanon wrote:I'm a guy and going to wear slacks and a button-down. No tie, no jacket.

I thought it said the dress code was business casual?

The dress code IS business casual. Don't be the guy/girl in jeans and a tshirt. Unless of course you don't want a job--as a lawyer--which is the point of law school, right?

Exactly. Your entire future as a lawyer will be based on your outfit at this event. Don't mess it up.Accountanon wrote:The dress code IS business casual. Don't be the guy/girl in jeans and a tshirt. Unless of course you don't want a job--as a lawyer--which is the point of law school, right?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
