If you're still stuck, I'd start making phone calls.

I'm making calls. No one is answering. But Green Grad does come up under the waitlist option, just not under the purchase option. Who knew buying a parking pass would be so complicated?
ETA: FINALLY got through to someone in the parking office and he was able to get me a Green Pass. Apparently the Green Pass isn't showing up for some people, so they've had a few calls today about that. Thanks again for your help everyone.

Links aren't broken for me. Just checked. Are you trying to access the links via the email that was sent? If so, you may want to head to the LEAD Week website as the readings are accessible there.Winston1984 wrote:So the links to read those articles before Dean Levi's lecture is broken for me. I had the same problem. It refused to show up on my parking options and finally someone at the parking office helped me out on the phone.MadwomanintheAttic wrote:I'm making calls. Just google those article names with duke law. You will get them. I can't access them via those links either.

Does anyone know if we have to get an NC driver's license and register our car in NC? I've been trying to figure it out based on the DMV website and it seems pretty vague and ambiguous

Yes. There's a grace period - I think they said it was two months while I was in the DMV - but eventually you'll get a ticket if you don't switch over. It's also a mandatory court appearance, so they'll tack court costs on. It's a hassle, but the consequences of not switching over are awful.legallybrunette93 wrote:Does anyone know if we have to get an NC driver's license and register our car in NC? You actually don't need to unless you're planning to establish a "permanent residence," which is to say, as students, you don't have to.NoLieAbility wrote:Yes. For those of you that have purchased your parking pass, have you received them in the mail yet?

Gotcha. I thought I saw they would arrive between 3-5 business days. Maybe I just made that up.Serett wrote:I still haven't, and we ordered earlier than you guys.Winston1984 wrote:For those of you that have purchased your parking pass, have you received them in the mail yet?

I appologize if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find it. How much is everyone budgeting for books? I figured 700-800 but I didn't know if that is too high or too low. Also, does anyone know if financial aid disbursements would be avaliable prior to classes starting? I'm working on the assumption they won't be.

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018
If that's per semester, it'd be high (as long as you're not buying everything new from the bookstor, as opposed to used, or comparing vendors, or renting at least some). If that's for the year, it's probably roughly accurate. ACES lists the disbursement date for the semester as 8/16/15, but because I had money saved up last year, I'm not certain how accurate/immediate that is.MadwomanintheAttic wrote:I appologize if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find it. I dunno. I spent about $750 per semester buying only new.

The $700-800 amount is what I was thinking I'd need to budget per semester, but it would be great if it's less than that. Does buying used offer a significant savings, usually?

Yeah, and renting even more so where available.MadwomanintheAttic wrote:The $700-800 amount is what I was thinking I'd need to budget per semester, but it would be great if it's less than that. Does buying used offer a significant savings, usually?
For example, on Amazon right now for some of the books I've had to purchase:
Property: New - $190; Used - $63; Rent - $22
Con Law: New - $190; Used - $102; Rent - $27
Civil Procedure: New - $192; Used - $162; Rent - $65
Crim Law: New - $16; Used - $14; Rent - $13 (okay, so this one is just plain cheap)
Legal Writing: New - $80; Used - $39; Rent - $22
There's some variation (other vendors, the book store's prices, different textbooks your professors might be using, etc.), but if you do even the bare minimum trying to be a smart consumer, textbooks won't be anywhere near $800/semester. And this is all without factoring in that you'll get some amount of credit back reselling your books to Amazon (assuming you choose not to rent) or someone else.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
