3.74 versus a 3.75?

Post by ammcg23 » Tue Jun 04, 2013 12:11 am

Hi,
I have the chance this summer to take an online class and raise my gpa from a 3.74 to a 3.75 before I apply in the fall. I guess I have this idea that applications are separated into, for instance, a 3.5-3.74 pile and a 3.75+ pile. The class is however expensive so I'm trying to gage whether paying for it this summer is worth it.

So anyone's opinion?
Thank you

This is a terrible idea.

In a few years, even gunners will call this guy a gunner.

Eh idk why everyone is so quick to call you out. Depending on how expensive it is I might do it if I were you, but they don't sort apps into piles like that.

I would have dropped at least 3 grand to be in the three-seven-five pile.

Can you not do it at a CC to save a lot more money?

If you havnt taken the LSAT, you should probably be spending all your time on that

Truth. On the LSAT one point actually makes a big difference.

This would be more helpful if you could get yourself up to the 3.78 area, which isn't the case.

I applied with a 3.69 and was constantly frustrated that I couldn't have managed an extra 0.01 somewhere along the line to get the 3.70, but it worked out fine. I think the .74/.75 difference warrants even less stress or attention. As other posters have said, worry more about the LSAT. As much as the extra 0.01 in GPA is bothering you now, knowing you could have answered 1-2 additional questions right to get +1 on the LSAT will bother you even more if you don't feel totally satisfied by your LSAT prep.

1 point on the LSAT = 0.1 point on your GPA is an okay rule of thumb. I'm at a 3.76 and a 169 has 2 accepts and 33 denials on LSN for UPenn (3.70 to 3.82 GPA range) in the last 6 cycles. A 171 has 26 accepts and 2 denials. And that's literally 2 questions on most LSATs today. 0.01 point on your GPA, relatively speaking, is absolutely meaningless.
