Budgeting Books

Post by goodthings » Tue May 29, 2012 9:19 am

Couldn't find anything recent in a search. I'm trying to budget cost of books for 1L and never found the cost listed in the COA to be on point. Could current students post 1) Roughly what you spent for the year on books, and 2) Where/how you bought them (i.e., new at school bookstore, used on amazon, from an upperclassman, etc).

thanks.

For first semester of 1L we got class assignments only days before classes began and had to start reading immediately. So buying everything new at the campus bookstore was around $1100 I think. (Much cheaper second semester, because two of the courses were year-long, and I've always bought used off amazon since.)

Buying used ever since, it varies by semester. Sometimes you have a class with a brand new text that you just can't get for less than $190. I probably average $600-$700/semester for used textbooks and supplements.
