I plan on studying hard patent law. After attending an accepted students day I was told it would be useful to have a laptop where I can draw pictures relating to the patents. However, I do want a functional laptop for test taking and notes. Any suggestions ?

Just get a regular laptop. You won't be drawing anything in law school - just furiously typing. This includes your patents classes. I've taken two patents courses, and I've drawn zero diagrams. If you must draw something, open MS paint, scribble it fast, and paste it into your notes. You may feel compelled to draw three, or possibly four, times in law school.
