I really liked the law school during the summer, although I didn't go there as a 0L you striver dork.

How much should I be spending on books? I'm looking at a little over $500 after doing some online hunting. Does that sound about right? I'm worried I might not get the books if I wait too long for everyone to post their old books.

That seems very high. Just wait for people to sell them on bookserv. Worst case scenario is getting them a few days before class via Amazon Prime.

Ok thanks! Do I need the newest editions? I can cut the cost pretty significantly if I buy older editions.

I bought my Torts and Property current edition used for like $30 each, and the older edition of Civ Pro used for like $2. The page numbers for Civ Pro were slightly off but I'm pretty sure the content was more or less the same.

I started using old editions in Spring Quarter. It was a mistake... not to do it sooner. There are probably some where it wouldn't work, though, if you want to throw out your options people here can probably tell you whether it'd be fine or not.

I used old editions for everything I can't get for $30 or so during 1L and it was a great way to have more drinking money.

I'm staying at the Shoreland and T-Mobile has surprisingly great reception. It has been fine around the city as well.

There's no better reminder that the summer is coming to an end than when the 1Ls start posting books for sale on lawannounce.

Really? I get really good everywhere in this building except the lobby... I guess AT&T just sucks in Chicago in general. :|
I get virtually no reception in my unit, but decent reception in the lobby. I don't want to switch carriers, since I still get unlimited data through at&t, but my only option is to get a microcell at this point or switch.

Regulus wrote:I thought about taking that too, but I decided against taking another MWR class. My current schedule (that I am hoping to switch up quite a bit after the first day of classes) is:

Secured Transactions
LAWS 42201/01: Monday/Wednesday/Thursday (2:45PM~3:50PM)

Modern Professional Responsibility (Hoping to swap this for the Transactional Clinic.)
LAWS 41018/01: Monday (9:45AM~11:45AM)

Contracts and Commercial Transactions
LAWS 91553/01: Wednesday (9:45AM~11:45AM)

Contract Drafting and Review
Thursday (9:45AM~11:45AM)

Project and Infrastructure Development and Finance
LAWS 42512/01: Thursday (4:00PM~6:00PM)

What are you all signed up to take, and which courses are you definitely sticking with?
Contracts and Commercial Transactions
Wednesday (9:45AM~11:45AM)

Financial Accounting (Assuming I get it, it's at Booth)
Wednesday (1:30PM~4:30PM)

Contract Drafting and Review
Thursday (9:45AM~11:45AM)

Food Law
Thursday (4:00PM~6:00PM)

Not dreading going back to school as much as I'd expected.
I just got off the waitlist for Contract Drafting & Review, so I'll be joining you for that. :D

Now if I can just make it into the Wednesday evening Corporate Lab: Transactional Clinic, I will only have to be on campus 2 days a week...
Nice work man. What place are you on the waitlist for Corporate Lab?

EDIT: Just take accounting with me at Booth.

Apparently #7, but it might be outdated because it is still showing me as #2 for Contract Drafting and Review and I just got the email saying that I'm off the waitlist for that class.

How about you?
I'm at 10. I've given up. I'm kind of into taking the Financial Accounting class, anyway. Will shorten up that gap in the middle of Wednesday and I'll be done at 4:30 rather than 6. Still plenty of other quarters to do corporate lab, I guess.

This might be faster than looking it up elsewhere: how many credits do 1Ls take?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
