On that note, I'm a URM that's been offered a moderate scholly at UT. Any chance on haggling a bit more out of them if I get a scholly to a UVA/GTown/Cal?chadstew55 wrote:Oh right, I think that is true. definitely - there's a post in another ut thread about the procedures required to get more money based on other offers - you should check with the fin-aid office on the details or try to find the post - i think lex_talionis posted it if i'm not mistakenart vandelay wrote:On that note, I'm a URM that's been offered a moderate scholly at UT. I did it & it worked out for me . . . though I didn't even wait until I got my fin. aid package, so who knows, maybe they just gave me what they would have anyway. It definitely can't hurt, though.

I tried to find that thread about haggling with UT for more cash and couldn't find it. What exactly did you do to get more money out of them?RATRATRAT wrote:I did it & it worked out for me . . . though I didn't even wait until I got my fin. aid package, so who knows, maybe they just gave me what they would have anyway. I already have a small scholarship + in-state tuition from them. To make things more complicated, I have a full-ride from SMU and just got accept to Michigan (no $$$ yet...doubt there will be any). I would like to practice in Texas immediately after law school but don't want to close the national door. I'm thinking about clerking afterward as well. SMU is hella tempting (no to little debt!), but I know they are a regional school and don't have the highest percentage of clerks out there!
Suggestions, por favor?

Re: The University of Texas at Austin, School of Law
Yea, I was just lazy and didn't put up the other applications. I sent apps to most T-25 schools. No Vandy or Cornell (no waiver from Vandy and the Cornell waiver came during finals...so I didn't want to bother). I have heard nothing from Duke, UVA, ND, or WUSTL.
I heard about the fund matching program, but I am kinda feeling like I am between a rock and a hard spot. They tell you to get that form in as soon as possible if you want money, but some of these guys will likely not offer me anything until late in the cycle.
SMU only gives three of those full rides away each year, so I am really hoping it is worth something!

Does anyone know when fin aid starts to show up? I am also contemplating sending in a scholarship matching request, but was originally going to wait for fin aid packages to show up. However, I may just send it in if it won't show up until march.

UT sent me a scholarship offer a few weeks after I got the decision letter. Ditto for most people.zonawildcat wrote:Does anyone know when fin aid starts to show up? The financial aid I was talking about was the package that includes your grants, scholarships, plus your available loans. I wanted to know how soon they would get the financial aid packages out after receiving fafsa. Grants, loans, scholarships will be a big deciding factor for me.

I can't remember the exact date we got ours. It was during the summer I think. Sorry I can't be of more help. Have you called the FinAid office yet?zonawildcat wrote:The financial aid I was talking about was the package that includes your grants, scholarships, plus your available loans. That still doesn't clear anything up. What do you mean by "continuing scholarships" and "once we get there?" I'm just not sure what type of scholarships you're talking about.txag_09 wrote:Amounts, criteria, etc.

Thanks countbizaller. I just got my offer from BU, so I may call UT this week. I talked to them last month when I submitted FAFSA, but it was too early at that point for them to give me any idea.

I *think* he meant whether scholarships were offered after you start (like based on class standing or what not) and how much is usually offeredcountbizaller wrote:

even if he didn't mean that, I guess I'd like to know

If that's what he meant, I've never heard of anybody getting one. They do have some scholarships that people can apply for once they're in school, but I don't think they're based on class standing.f0bolous wrote:I *think* he meant whether scholarships were offered after you start (like based on class standing or what not) and how much is usually offeredcountbizaller wrote:

I just meant any scholarships for students who have already spent a semester or more a UT.

I apologize if this has already been answered, but does anybody know what the curve generally is? I know that it is relatively hard to get a C so I would assume around a 3.0; however, I was hoping to see if anyone actually knew for sure-ish.

Between 3.3 & 3.4, I believe.
