Univ of Arizona 1L taking questions
I remember wishing there was a discussion thread for the school when I was making my decision. So I'll try to give interested students that opportunity.
Only been here for a few weeks, but I'll do my best. Shoot away.

Re: Univ of Arizona 1L taking questions
Well as an UofA alum myself I start the questions.
What were you Undergrad and LSATs scores?
Do they favor instate or out of state candidates? As an undergrad they seemed to favor out of state because it brings in more money.
Why not ASU?
Any initial impressions after your first few weeks of class?

Re: Univ of Arizona 1L taking questions
Thanks for the question. I'd rather not post LSAT scores on here, but my undergrad GPA was a 3.5. I got into a few higher ranked schools, but ultimately settled on U of A due to location & cost. I lived in Arizona before (middle school) and knew that I wanted to end up back here somehow. I chose U of A over ASU due to cost as well. I got a larger scholarship from U of A for whatever reasons.
I don't want to say U of A favors out of state students, but it does seem that the majority of students here are out of state. I'm not sure what the breakdown is exactly. Could be 60% out of state and 40% instate. Most of the people I have met so far are out of state though that is for sure.
After the first few weeks of class I love it. It is a very laid back atmosphere. Professors and students are all very helpful. It is not competitive what-so-ever, and that is one of the things I was looking for in choosing a law school. I have not met a student or professor that I do not like as of yet.
I hope that helps some.

Actually it does help some. I respect UofA as a whole more now than I did when I was attending. Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed a large amount of out of staters.

Is it still so hot that your balls go for a swim every time you walk across the mall?

But in all seriousness, Tucson is about 7-10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Phoenix lately has been around 105-108. Tucson is around 95-98. It's manageable. Was it hotter earlier during the summer? Yes.

Weather aside, how is Tucson as a town? I assume it's all centered around the school. Is that right? How's the social scene?

There a few international students here. Not many Asians, however.mz253 wrote:are there any int'l students there? are AZ a conservative state towards asian?

It's mostly centered around the school, you are correct. Social scene is pretty cool. Lots of bars around campus, although, I honestly haven't been going out much since school started. I did go out a few times during orientation, though. I definitely think it is a town that you need to check out before deciding to move. It has some very nice parts, and some not so nice parts of town. But I guess that's just about everywhere.Burgstaller04 wrote:Weather aside, how is Tucson as a town? Re: Univ of Arizona 1L taking questions
Any idea which non NALP firms in AZ take SAs?

Edit: I have some friends at the U of A so I'll try to take a crack at some of these questions. You real Wildcats correct me if I'm full of shit.
As far as job prospects are concerned - Top 5-15% gets you a shot at BIGLAW in AZ. Top 1/2 gets a legal job: everything between a nice boutique in Scottsdale and doc review depending your networking skills and previous qualifications. This may sound awful but its actually better than a fuckton of schools of similar or higher rank.
Tucson as a town - Awesome local music scene. Amazing for outdoorsy types. The bars and clubs along 4th are goodtimes. Its not for you if you're looking for an urban environment tho. It is centered around the university. Flag is a much smaller town.

What made you choose University of Arizona over Arizona State?
