Who else is in?
I'm still waiting on a few schools, but I'm leaning towards Kansas LS. I got accepted late in the cycle. I currently live far away so I won't be able to visit.
I honestly don't know much about Lawrence or the law school, so any key info would be very helpful.
Any housing advice?

You might PM ks2pa on here. He's undergrad (or was--not sure) at KU, and he's given me some good tips on Washburn, where I'll be going. I've recently visited Lawrence looking for housing between Kansas City and Topeka, and Lawrence is a great midpoint. Seriously, though, ask ks2pa before too long. He should be a great source of info. Good luck!!!

I'm currently an undergrad at KU so ask me if you have any questions. There is plenty of affordable housing ($300-$350 a month) within a 5 minute drive of campus. The law school even has its own parking lot for students. Message me if you have any more questions.

Considering applying to KS

Post by GeoffreyFRose » Sun Jun 17, 2007 9:16 pm

I like KCMO a lot and I figure that KS is better than UMKC (my main interests are health care and Elder Law).

Question: what's the social life like? How progressive is Lawrence?

My undergraduate years were spent at NYU and I'm currently living in Los Angeles. I like the midwest but I'm nervous about taking the plunge: any thoughts?

In the end, it'll be a slower pace of life, and the people will tend to be more conservative, but as with most Midwest state school cities (KU's Lawrence, MU's Columbia, OU's Norman, UT's Austin, etc.), the people you find there will be a little more progressive or "lefty" than the surrounding areas. All in all, if you seek a JD, either will be a good place to go, and both offer plenty of things to do, although significantly less than what you're probably used to.

Anyone else looking for housing? I'm from VA so I'm all ears for recommendations.

What do you mean in trouble- in KC, or nationally? Do you mean to say if you aren't in the top 10%, you'll have a hard time getting KC? I'm trying to decide between WUSTL and KU for getting a KC job.

This is a small sample size so I don't know how accurate it is but all of the big KC firms seem to recruit at both.

most stay within topeka and kc, if your ok with staying between those two you should be fine if your top quarter or third.

keep in mind any law school that is close to a capital city (topeka is half an hour from KU) will have more opportunities within the government courts,
