Re: LSU Class of 2017
Me too! Mailing my deposit this week.
I'll be at the Scholarship Dinner and the ASD in April.
I guess I'll just go ahead and throw it out there that I'll be looking for a roommate in BR!

Yeah I'll be at the ASD on the 11th. Not sure about the scholarship dinner. I'm still trying to squeeze more money out of them.

I'll be attending LSU in the fall as well! Unfortunately, I can't make either one of the ASDs. Looking forward to meeting everyone in the fall!

Re: LSU Class of 2017
I will be attending LSU unless something ridiculous comes up scholarship wise. Haven't received LSU's package in the mail yet, just the email. I plan on coming either this year if I get funded through military or next year through GI bill. Hope to come to the events this weekend if I can get a 1/2 day off work on Friday.

I'll be attending the ASD this Saturday. Is anyone bringing a guest (parent or significant other)?

I'll be bringing my SO to the ASD I go to, but I'm going to the one in April.

Yeah I'm bringing a friend and girlfriend actually so I don't have to make the drive by myself. Never been to Louisiana at all.

Just an FYI for anyone else who might not have seen it, there's an off campus housing/room mate search website.

Is anyone going out the 11th on the ASD? I'm trying to experience Baton Rouge in its entirety.

I think the best differs from person to person, but I can tell you to avoid Tigerland like the plague.BamaLaw wrote:Anyone know the best bars in BR?
The Bulldog, Radio Bar & The Cove have a good balance of drink selection, prices, and crowd.
Happy's isn't bad if you want cheap drinks and want to go to the club right after.
I have a lot of friends that also swear by the Londoner, but I've never been.
There's more but this is just off the top of the head.

I've heard tigerland just gets ratchet. Other than that are there other reasons to stay away?

Freshman getting roofed, annoying frats, overcrowded, drinks spilled on you, shitty drinks btw, you have to pay a cover just to get in, cover gets ridiculous during football season $10-25, being surrounded by freshman, shoes stepped on.BamaLaw wrote:I've heard tigerland just gets ratchet. I mean, they do usually have a good amount of good looking women there, but it's nothing you can't find anywhere else in the city at night. You're better off going to City Bar if you want the bar/club hybrid dead. Less frats and everyone under 21 isn't invited.

Re: LSU Class of 2017
Has anyone signed a lease yet? I'm looking at Campus Crossing at Highland. It's all inclusive and it seems like its pretty close to everything, including the law school. Not sure of it's proximity to the bars but I guess some of my hard earned scholarship money could fund a cab ride or two. I go to UGA now and we pretty much walk home from the bars because they're at the center of Athens. I only live a little over a mile from all the bars now. I also want to be as close as I can to the stadium so I can walk back after games and walk to tailgates. I'm also looking at the Cottages. I see they're a little farther but that doesn't bother me. Also I've heard they can be kind of rowdy with undergrad parties but that also really doesn't bother me. Anyone got any real insight into either of these places?

I'm going to look at places when I'm visiting next week. I'm working on getting a room mate lined up.
This planning from a distance thing is quite difficult.

I've lived there before. CC is fine, although overpriced tbh.BamaLaw wrote:Has anyone signed a lease yet? I'm looking at Campus Crossing at Highland. I hope you're not looking at a 1 or 2 bedroom unless they're offering a special, because even with a couple of specials, I'm paying more than I should. I've NEVER been inside one that has nice carpet, and the two units I've split time in were no exception. And yeah, you won't really be able to walk from most of the bars in the city unless you frequent the "Northgate" area, which is literally next to CC Highland. It's actually a great look if you consider yourself a hipster, or you really really like Chimes/The Varsity, but people here generally rotate bars as opposed to frequenting their favorite place, so get used to driving. Nothing worth driving to is more than 5, at most, 10 minutes away, so don't worry about burning gas.
The Cottages, are nice on the inside, and yes, there is the occasional rowdy party. Problem with them is the price (actually more expensive than CC Highland per room) and you STILL have to drive to school. And yes, you're technically 5 minutes from school, but don't count on getting there close to that time because LSU thought making Highland a one-lane road was a good idea. And parking <<<<< too. At least the bus is free, and there's a stop at the front of complex. If you can manage to get a spot free of rowdy frats as roommates and have just graduate students, then you'll be fine there.

Around how long did it take any of you to receive your packet after the decision was made?

It took probably like 3 weeks for me to get mine, honestly. However, I got the e-mail right before Christmas, so the letter didn't get mailed out until they were back from holidays.charrfarr2 wrote:Around how long did it take any of you to receive your packet after the decision was made?

I am actually SO excited, haha.
I can't wait to be back down there, to find a place to live, etc.
What sucks is I'd rather plan for next year than write the 10 and 15 page papers that I need to get done before I can graduate... Ah, well.
