Assuming Gregory moved on interviews for the 2023-24 term already, but does anyone know for sure? OSCAR says interviews mid September.

He evidently conducted some interviews in July and August despite what OSCAR said. But I'm not aware of hires having been made.

Got an email from Thacker saying she's only looking for 22-23 right now. It said to resubmit for 23-24 before the end of May 2022.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 1:09 pmAnyone have any info on Judge Thacker? Is she hiring for 2023 right now?

Does anyone have any insight into how Gregory, Thacker, Harris, Keenan, and Motz are as bosses?

Gregory and Thacker are both reportedly terrific clerkships. Harris clerks work a ton, though I've never been clear on whether that's because she's a demanding boss or she just hires gunners (maybe both). Motz has a reputation for being "prickly," though her former clerks all seem to adore her. I've heard similar things about Keenan, but fwiw my understand is that she's stepping down soon and isn't hiring any more clerks.phillybatman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 5:39 amDoes anyone have any insight into how Gregory, Thacker, Harris, Keenan, and Motz are as bosses?

Thanks! What about King, Diaz, Wynn, Floyd (although going senior)? Also any thoughts on who is getting Floyd’s seat. Seemed like Childs before DC Cir. nomAnonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 11:33 amGregory and Thacker are both reportedly terrific clerkships. (Different anon from above.) I think Floyd is a terrific clerkship; hours seem very good and his clerks seem to be huge fans. No sense on who is getting Floyd's seat post-Childs nom yet. Totally agree with the above comments on Gregory/Thacker/Harris/Motz. I'll note that Thacker almost exclusively hires people with ties to West Virginia (I think King also cares about West VA ties). Harris clerks do work a ton (agree combo of gunners/demanding boss, it seems like she basically hires feeder-ish types) but seem to really like Harris. Diaz will be chief judge soon so will get an extra clerk, I had a friend of a friend who clerked for him and thought it was a great clerkship and the office space in Charlotte is very nice.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 3:54 pmThanks! New anon. I remember reading something a while back about Diaz’s chambers costing fed gov $1 mill (good for him! LOL) must be nice for the clerks and judge.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 9:29 am(Different anon from above.) Diaz just posted on OSCAR for 2024 - I'm assuming this means he's full for 2023, but can anyone with more info confirm?

I know he filled at least one position for 2023 back in June, but not sure if he filled all of his 2023 slots.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 2:16 pmDiaz just posted on OSCAR for 2024 - I'm assuming this means he's full for 2023, but can anyone with more info confirm?

Re: Let's Talk 4th Circuit!
Also wondering this - he hasn't announced like Motz or Floyd did. If he doesn't do it soon, Biden will probably not have time to fill his seat before the midterms (and Dems almost certainly won't have the votes to confirm anyone afterwards).
Him, Moore on the 6th, Rovner on the 7th, and Gould on the 9th are judges that I thought would have taken senior status by now. I would hope Biden's people are reaching out to judges eligible for senior status, but given their general ineptitude and failure to even nominate any new judges in over a month, I doubt they've done anything meaningful.
You would think the Democrats would have learned their lesson about the importance of the judiciary after the Trump years, but nope they're as incompetent as ever.

Re: Let's Talk 4th Circuit!
I'd start by looking at when his term as Chief Judge ends. I don't know that it's impossible to go senior while Chief, but I don't think I've ever heard of that happening on an appeals court (or district for that matter, but seems more likely). Could be a particularly bad look considering that he was renominated by a President of the opposite party.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 9:27 pmAlso wondering this - he hasn't announced like Motz or Floyd did. Also, seems worth mentioning who is at fault for the "principle" that Democrats are not allowed to confirm anyone unless they control 51 Senate votes. Letting that be taken for granted seems like a favor to McConnell.

Probably a shot in the dark but to those who know Heytens's hires, have they generally been feeder-level candidates? He's probably the buzziest of the Biden noms (besides KBJ herself obviously) in that department.

They've been pretty high-quality. Multiple clerkships with feeder-level judges (think Rakoff, Brinkema, etc.). Has multiples hires from Yale and UVA.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 4:23 pmProbably a shot in the dark but to those who know Heytens's hires, have they generally been feeder-level candidates?
