Does it matter for financial aid if my dad recently lost his job and is currently unemployed? Looks like they only take last year into account.

I think they only focus on 2012 because that's the most recent complete year to get an accurate picture of your finances. I'd say that's definitely worth an update. I can't remember if you've gotten your fin aid package yet, but I would wait until you do, and then definitely use that as an update/appeal. That, combined with the other offers you have, should make for a pretty compelling appeal letter.

Yeah, given your offer from UVA, I would definitely appeal that. It also depends how you portrayed parental assistance on Need Access --if you already said they weren't supporting you, your dad losing his job (sorry to hear that, by the way) may not impact their evaluation too much, but if it looked like you would've gotten a lot of support from your parents, then I would think that would change the way they view your financial need. They seem really open to appeals; my appeal was really just a clarification of a few misleading figures on my Need Access, so I would go for it. Good luck!

You have to email them first, then they will respond to say that a "My Appeal" tab has been added to your faaps portal and you can write a statement and upload documents there.

There were a bunch of Financial Aid decisions this past Monday, but we were all thinking Friday was their normal decision day for money. Hopefully they release another batch tomorrow!

(I'd like to get that financial need appeal rolling.)

I'm surprised the law.nyu.edu email isn't your go-to for job apps. It seems so much more professional than the abc123@nyu.edu that I've seen from emails.

I think most employers are really used to seeing the abc123's because of how huge we are in NY. Probably less so in other markets.

Has it taken anyone (who isn't up for named scholarship consideration) longer than that?

There's not really a consensus, to my knowledge, but if you haven't applied for a named scholarship, then yeah, you should hear within that timeframe. I believe most people (who didn't apply to a named scholarship) have heard by now.

Cool, thats what I thought. I just got in about a 10 days ago and just applied 2 days ago so I don't expect to hear till at least april.

Also, when do pizza boxes come?! My acceptance letter is postmarked the 6th but I haven't gotten my box yet.
