Yeah, given your offer from UVA, I would definitely appeal that. It also depends how you portrayed parental assistance on Need Access --if you already said they weren't supporting you, your dad losing his job (sorry to hear that, by the way) may not impact their evaluation too much, but if it looked like you would've gotten a lot of support from your parents, then I would think that would change the way they view your financial need. They seem really open to appeals; my appeal was really just a clarification of a few misleading figures on my Need Access, so I would go for it. Good luck!digifly wrote:I got my final package, but it was $0 haha.ph5354a wrote:I think they only focus on 2012 because that's the most recent complete year to get an accurate picture of your finances. I'd say that's definitely worth an update. I can't remember if you've gotten your fin aid package yet, but I would wait until you do, and then definitely use that as an update/appeal. That, combined with the other offers you have, should make for a pretty compelling appeal letter.digifly wrote:Does it matter for financial aid if my dad recently lost his job and is currently unemployed? Looks like they only take last year into account.

Thanks for the advice! Do I just email them an appeal or is there a specific process?

You have to email them first, then they will respond to say that a "My Appeal" tab has been added to your faaps portal and you can write a statement and upload documents there.digifly wrote:Thanks for the advice! Do I just email them an appeal or is there a specific process?

There were a bunch of Financial Aid decisions this past Monday, but we were all thinking Friday was their normal decision day for money. Hopefully they release another batch tomorrow!
(I'd like to get that financial need appeal rolling.)

just set up my nyu home account and email address. A little sad that it's a general @nyu.edu address instead of @nyu-law.edu

Is anybody wrestling with the decision between a (potential) full ride like Jacobson or AnBryce and HS? What are your thoughts so far?

There was some discussion of it in this thread a few weeks ago, if it's of any help: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=205115

there is a way to get one. i don't remember how though. try firstname.lastname@law.nyu.edu and e-mail yourself to see if it is already established.nashlakers wrote:just set up my nyu home account and email address. A little sad that it's a general @nyu.edu address instead of @nyu-law.edu

they're linked, I think. I'm surprised the law.nyu.edu email isn't your go-to for job apps. It seems so much more professional than the abc123@nyu.edu that I've seen from emails.JamMasterJ wrote:they're linked, I think. Re: NYU Law Class of 2016
I think most employers are really used to seeing the abc123's because of how huge we are in NY. Probably less so in other markets.02889 wrote:I'm surprised the law.nyu.edu email isn't your go-to for job apps. I didn't know they had started going out, did you just receive an invite? If so, congrats!

Wow, congrats on the RTK invite, risa! I thought all of the candidates for those named, full schollies were already contacted. Good to hear this.

Just double checking, but is the consensus that fin aid packages come somewhere between 1 and 3 weeks after you enter 'final stages of review'?
Has it taken anyone (who isn't up for named scholarship consideration) longer than that?

There's not really a consensus, to my knowledge, but if you haven't applied for a named scholarship, then yeah, you should hear within that timeframe. I believe most people (who didn't apply to a named scholarship) have heard by now.bsinoff wrote:Just double checking, but is the consensus that fin aid packages come somewhere between 1 and 3 weeks after you enter 'final stages of review'?

Cool, thats what I thought. I just got in about a 10 days ago and just applied 2 days ago so I don't expect to hear till at least april.ph5354a wrote:There's not really a consensus, to my knowledge, but if you haven't applied for a named scholarship, then yeah, you should hear within that timeframe.
