So... books.
When is too late to buy textbooks? I feel like I'm already behind.

If you wait, you can get a good deal by buying them from 2Ls.ahenson7 wrote:So... books.

But as I don't know which section we're in, it is not very helpful. I'm assuming we'll find all that out at orientation... just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally missing something.

Anyone who is in Section Z and has Professor Wells--he doesn't allow laptops. He never tells people ahead of time, which is why I am telling you now. Do NOT take notes for the first day on your laptop unless you are going to print it out before you go. He calls on one person for the entire 50 minute class so come very prepared.
ETA: I've had professors in all of the sections, so if anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.

Re: Georgia Class of 2015
So did you guys any experience renting books 1L? I kinda like writing in my books, but man some of them are expensive.
Also, do you use the same books for the whole year? Or do you use different books second semester?
Thanks!

I highlighted all over and spilled vodka on one of my rented books. They still took it back. It might depend on the rental company, though. The one the official bookstore and the baxter street bookstore uses lets you markup for sure.gregfootball2001 wrote:So did you guys any experience renting books 1L? For the year long classes, you'll use the same books.

Is there an optimal way to get the Black's Law Dictionary?

Absolutely do not buy one. There is one on every table in the library, and most terms can also be looked up on the internet. After a month or so, you'll almost never need to look something up.dawg12 wrote:Is there an optimal way to get the Black's Law Dictionary?

Re: Georgia Class of 2015
Quick question for current law students. I've had my current macbook for 5 years now and am in the market for a new one (preferably to get one before classes start next week). I don't really think I'm looking to buy one of the new Pros with the whole Retina display, but is there any advice between a Macbook Pro and a Macbook Air for a law student? $$ isn't too much of an issue, although it'd be nice to just have one of the cheaper 13 inch Airs if possible. Just from a perspective of any current UGA law students, are people fine with just having an Air or does the more power of a Pro seem necessary?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

All you need to be able to do is use Microsoft Word (automatic table of authorities is so clutch) and use basic internet.
The concern I'd have about getting a new Mac is that don't they have a new OS? We use electronic bluebook software for exams so you'll want to make sure that will work.

FYI section X'ers, the civ pro supplement is in the bookstore now. The fifth edition of that legal writing book is not, however.

Anyone else surprised to hear that the law class size for this year went down to 189? I believe in past years it was around 225 or so.

I had the same thought when he said that today. Maybe it's like reality TV and there's a "twist": they're going to unleash 50 new fresh students into the class in October.mxmatt137 wrote:Trying to get that "selectivity" bump in the rankings?BKCentral wrote:Anyone else surprised to hear that the law class size for this year went down to 189? That would be extremely entertaining from the outside looking in.epistemizer wrote:I had the same thought when he said that today. To be fair the number might also be lower because of people like me. I was set on GA until a few weeks ago when I got off another waitlist.

UGA did the wait list game as well, though- I was sitting next to a guy who had gotten a call yesterday.

Re: Georgia Class of 2015
I'm a 2L at a different school and I am in a rather specified class with a new Professor who has no prior exams. He is using a casebook and two out of the three authors of that casebook teach at Georgia and both teach the same course I am taking. I can see they both have posted a number of previous exams, but the library website is password protected for only Georgia students. Anyone willing to access them for me out of TLS cameraderie? I would offer up buying you a beer but I'm on the West Coast. If you're a 1L looking to do well I can offer some time on the phone answering your questions. I was Top 5% at a T30 and transferred. PM me.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
