Are the LEEWS CD's necessary for LEEWS?

If someone could explain the difference b/w the booklet/primer and the CD's that come with, that would be great (the CD's are expensive and I want to know whether it's worth it to get them or try to rent them somewhere, e.g., do the CD's have information on them that's not included w/in the primer??)
