...which one would you buy? Here's my list, correct me if I'm wrong:

Contracts: Hornbook (Dobbs)

Property: Emanuel OR Hornbook (Dobbs)

Torts: E&E (Glannon)

Criminal Procedure: E&E

Civil Procedure: E&E (Glannon)

Constitutional Law: E&E

Contracts: I like the E&E - hornbooks play a different role than sups for me.

Property: I use a hornbook and some estates workbooks

Torts: E&E (Glannon) - credited

Criminal Procedure: Dressler's Understanding Criminal Law

Civil Procedure: Glannon Guide > E&E

Constitutional Law: E&E or Chemerski hornbook.

I like the E and E for Property.

I agree for CivPro that the Glannon Guide is better than the E and E (If I only got to have one).

I also agree that hornbooks play a different role than commercial outlines/E and Es. I use hornbooks when I need clarification or depth on an issue. I would never read an entire hornbook, however I would read an entire E and E.

Contracts: E&E (but the Emanuels outline is a close second)

Property: Emanuels

Torts: Emanuels

Civ Pro: Glannon Guide hands down

I have no opinon on the rest.

Does it matter which year it was written? For example, should I buy the 2007 E&E instead of the 2004 version?

Why do you prefer Emanuels over EE?

Maybe. If your Civ Pro class covers Twombly (a recent case, changing some pleading standards and other related crap) then you'll need the new hornbook, because this is a new case. Or if you want the inside scoop on Hamdi, Parents Involved in Community Schools, Bong Hits for Jesus, and all the newer conlaw cases, you may want the updated Chemerenski. But on the whole, as I posted in the other thread, this is pretty much the last thing that should be on your mind right now.

They are completely different in terms of how they convey information. EE is a textbook style format (you know, paragraphs and stuff), while Emanuels is organized into more of an outline format (although it still has paragraphs). I prefer less information.

I bought canned case briefs + understanding series/EE for each class. Served me well.

Which canned cased briefs did you get?

Getting E&E for all classes seems like a good investment but I'm lost when it comes to the briefs/outlines. I've heard of Gilberts and Emmanuels...what's the difference between the two?

Skip everything on Contracts except Chirelstein. Say it with me: Chirelstein.

I'd also like to endorse the Chirelstein contracts book. I've used the E&E for contracts as well, but it is a lot more dense and long than Chirelstein for essentially the same result. Plus, I've found that the Chirelstein book uses virtually all the same cases that were used in my class, which makes it particularly relevant and helpful. I'd say use the E&E like a month before your exam or throughout the semester, but closer to the test and especially if you are in a crunch, use the Chirelstein.

TITCR. Some of the E&E's are more helpful than others. Chirelstein is the best thing out there for contracts, and it helps that it's also concise (I'm looking at you, Erwin Chemerinksky)!

When referring to Chirelstein's book, you guys are talking about the one called Concepts And Case Analysis in the Law of Contracts, correct?

I think the fact that its one volume is tremendous. Chemerinksky's treatise is bar none the best hornbook out there, in any subject. This avatar sucks.

Another TLSer informed me that Emanuels are not as in-depth as Gilberts. So if you're looking for some fast tips and clarifications, then I believe you should go with Emanuels.

Gilberts and Emmanuels are both outlines. I would go with Emanuels. Gilberts in unnecessarily long and Emanuels seems to focus more on what is most likely to be tested on an exam. Crunchtime is also a condensed Emanuels which focuses solely on the exam (i.e. flowcharts, test tips, and questions [emanuels has the same questions though]).

Canned briefs are different. The two main canned briefs are casenotes and legalines. I don't have much experience with the two because I usually just pull the brief off of lexis, but I did get a copy of legalines for property as an added bonus when I bought a related book from amazon. My .02 is that legalines seems to be a little better because, in addition to briefs, it is set up in an outline format [disclaimer: I've only casually looked over the casenotes briefs]. So not only to you get to skip reading the cases, you get a handy oultine as well.
