I apologize in advance if there is some crazy awesome answer to this question already in the forums, and if there is, please direct me to it.
Otherwise,
I was wondering if anyone had any information on negotiating additional scholarship money from your current law school after first year grades. I got a 4.0 first semester and I go to a school in the 50s. I'd like to stay, because I enjoy the area, decent job prospects and what not. However, I have a roughly 25% scholarship, and I'd like to minimize my debt if possible. Does anyone have any advice on best time/method to bring this up? Who should I petition for more scholarship money? What are the odds I get any? How much?
Anecdotal evidence is welcome. Thanks!

Well first of all, if you did really well, chances are they will offer you a good scholarship already (but don't stop there).hds2388 wrote:I apologize in advance if there is some crazy awesome answer to this question already in the forums, and if there is, please direct me to it.

One of my friends, who really wanted to stay, simply went to the Dean's Office. She asked to speak with the Dean about transferring. She told the Dean how she was planning to transfer, but loved the current school, really REALLY wanted to stay but was worried about financial issues and job issues. She already had a 3/4 scholarship award, and negotiated it into a full one plus stipend. I am not sure, but I think she also mentioned how in previous years, she had heard people of similar rank get better scholarships. This was at a T2, I don't know her rank (though it must be super high) and I don't think she had any transferring acceptances in hand. She stayed and was extremely happy with the result.

Thanks for the info. Do you know when she asked, was it before 2nd semester grades, or after?Arrow wrote:Well first of all, if you did really well, chances are they will offer you a good scholarship already (but don't stop there).hds2388 wrote:I apologize in advance if there is some crazy awesome answer to this question already in the forums, and if there is, please direct me to it.

Re: Negotiating More Scholarship Money with 1L grades
I'll be negotiating as well, though I'm waiting until after 2nd semester grades and transfer offers come back. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, my school only offers about $20k in scholarship $$ at the max, excepting public interest and minority scholarships for entering 1Ls. I'm wondering if that is a hard limit, or a soft limit on scholarships.
