1L with a Writing Sample question

Post by smittytron3k » Sun Feb 06, 2011 8:50 pm

Government employer emailed me asking for a writing sample, which can be anything besides an LRW assignment. What should I send?

(a) Assignment from winter Problem Solving Workshop.
(b) Section of UG paper.
(c) Section of white paper written for a former non-legal employer.

Wow. That strikes me as odd that they specifically excluded the legal writing work since that is what I think most 1Ls use. Maybe they got tired or reading sample memos and motions lol. I would try to go with whatever you think is the most professional and polished or your options, and perhaps whatever is most similar to something you might have to draft in the legal field.

Seconded. That is very odd.

The only other "legal" writing I can think of other than my LRW assignments are my returned exams. And those are not pretty to look at in the light of day.

I would pick your most polished piece of writing, since it seems the employer isn't at all interested in your legal writing.
