Searching for housing from far away stinks!
I thought I found the perfect place but the landlord jacked up the rent by over one hundred dollars a month! Argh.

Ugh that's so frustrating! Was that the Bristol on Bway apartment?akili wrote:Searching for housing from far away stinks!

I'm struggling because I want to live near campus but I'm not in love with the Americana/20 & Grand/etc. and I'm really nervous about signing a lease for a random apartment or house without seeing it for myself. I was really trying to avoid apartment hunting in person, but I think I might have to.
In other news, I still don't exist in Vandy's computer system. So. Annoying.

The Cumberland downtown looks nice - but parking is an extra hundred bucks per month per car.

Wooohooo! Finally got my VUnetID and email address. I'm kind of disproportionately excited about this.

Hey guys, got off the WL last week. The scholly plus the acceptance package sealed the deal for me! Just sent in my deposit today, so looks like it'll officially be vandy for me! I just read through this thread...is there ANYTHING nice within walking distance to campus? Price isn't as much of an issue, I'm going to be living with my GF and we'll split rent.

plenty of nice places within walking distance. See Twenty&Grand, Bristol on Broadway, Village at Vanderbilt, and other small independently owned houses/apartments in the music row vicinity.SilverE2 wrote:Hey guys, got off the WL last week. Yeah, I was looking at Twenty&Grand, but I saw some other people in this thread said it was a little old / not much bang for buck. I'll take a look at the other places.pleasetryagain wrote:plenty of nice places within walking distance. the apartments are a little pricey but they are pretty nice and you can't live closer to the school. I don't know where the "old" thing is coming from.. definitely wouldn't characterize it as old.SilverE2 wrote:Yeah, I was looking at Twenty&Grand, but I saw some other people in this thread said it was a little old / not much bang for buck. Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2014
I dunno, I'm looking around and it really seems like you can get much more for your money a bit further away from the school. I really don't mind driving, but what I'm most concerned about is the parking situation at the school. The last thing I want is to drive around the parking lot for 20 minutes every morning until I find a spot, like I did at my undergrad...

Re: Vanderbilt Class of 2014
Well, you said walking distance but you are correct: if you want to live 15 minutes out you can get a really nice place for less than you'd pay for a 1 bedroom in Nashville proper. That said, traffic into the city in the mornings (depending on where you're living) is insane. Parking shouldn't be an issue; you buy a parking pass that lets you park in the garage across from the school. You'll always get a spot but you'll have a 5-10 min walk.SilverE2 wrote:I dunno, I'm looking around and it really seems like you can get much more for your money a bit further away from the school. It's like $200-$250 for a year. I should note that I did without it 2L year and parked at Starbucks like every day lol.
