A lot of the apartments in the building are privately owned, so you can end up with different deals depending on who you rent from. Our apartment was pretty comfortable most of the winter without using the heat too much, I think our gas bill never got above $50 per month.sarahlawg wrote:I see it only includes water. What does heat run you? Beautiful place!Emma. wrote:
Yeah, we used every internet resource we could find to make a list of places, then came out for a long weekend in June to scope them all out. Our place is in this building: http://www.chicagoapt.com/index.php?opt ... ealty=user

I don't mean to scare you. I think the danger aspect is pretty overblown, and I know people who live on 62nd and like it there. Things definitely go downhill as soon as you leave the campus police patrol zone though, and you probably wouldn't want to street park every night on 62nd.sarahlawg wrote:one block from the school starts the bad area? ayee. The 3L girl I talked to lived just south of the law school and said it was perfectly fine, but she was very close (a 3 min. walk).

Gah, Em, I feel like the washer/dryer alone are worth a gazillion bucks.

Yeah, it is pretty nice to have. I should have invited you to come check our place out. I'd have to ask my SO (who has done all our budgeting/bill paying since school startedDany wrote:Gah, Em, I feel like the washer/dryer alone are worth a gazillion bucks.

After promising to myself that I'd not go to TLS until after submitting a certain amount of pages of my thesis, I simply couldn't hold back. It feels good to see so much action on this thread - thanks Dany - I can't wait for next weekend.

Hyde Park doesn't need Borders when it has two locations of the world's greatest bookstore, the Seminary Coop, not two blocks from campus.

Hi
Sorry if this is lazy of me but I couldn't find the answers easily: What utilities does Regents include (water? heat? electric? cable? internet)? Are units still available/how long will they be available (I know if you apply by may 31 you can get the law skewl deal)?

the only utility that is covered in internet. Heat/water is based on the whole building's consumption relative to your own square feet. It max's out at $70 a month, and most months you'll end up paying the full $70, whether you live in a 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom apartment.Fresh wrote:Hi![]()

Units are definitely available; they don't assign them until ~2 months before school starts. However, when you apply, your name gets put in line to pick the specific floorplan you want. The app fee is $50, and even though I'm not 100% on Regents, I went ahead and paid just in case.

So much fun! Were you there? Everyone I talked to had nothing but good things to say about the school, and they all seemed so down to earth. It really ramped up my excitment for ASW.DorianGray89 wrote:What did people think of the wine mess in DC last night?

We met at ASW somewhat through this site (TLS meet-up in Chicago during NU and UChi ASWs)sarahlawg wrote:JollyGreenGiant wrote:Everything. dude that's great. Do you live with a random or did you guys meet before 1L?
Are there many houses you could rent in Hyde Park? Or non-high rise apartments? I feel like they would be cheaper/roomier...
Regents has plenty of room in its apartments, but there are much cheaper places around I'm sure. I didn't really research it, but I'm sure there are some websites around. Be careful of where you choose though. Regents is in a safe part of Hyde Park... other places aren't necessarily.

+1
Also, thanks to canceled class, I'll now be in on Thursday. How do I alter the googledoc to reflect that change?
P.S. - Anyone staying with a student who turns out to be super weird is more than welcome to crash in my hotel room.
