Need advice

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jul 05, 2016 6:27 pm

I go to a school in south Florida. It is a tier two school. I am in the top 6% of my school and graded onto law review and have an 80% scholarship at my current school. want to practice down here. I got into U Penn as a transfer student. What do I do?

I'd say go to Penn. Opens up tons of options for your entire career

I am assuming that because you currently go to school in south FL and want to practice there you have connections in the area/market already. No one is going to turn you down for going to Penn when you have those connections. It's slightly different if you were from, say, South Dakota, looking to practice in Arizona, and you only went to ASU because you wanted to practice there and then left right away to go elsewhere, but in your situation I would say you'll be fine getting back to south FL with the Penn degree and by leveraging your contacts.

I was born and raised here, but I don't have many (less than a handful) connections to the legal community.

Penn. You can always go back to Florida, you can't always go to an ivy league law school.

are you biglaw or bust? if you're at FIU, i'd say leave regardless. if you're at Miami, there's an argument for staying especially if you're not deadset on BL.

Not at FIU. I think I would initially want to work BL but then I eventually want to have a family so I think I may consider going to a mid-size firm after a few years.
