fratstar1------I understand you applied EA, but.....

(1) How long did it take for you to hear back from admissions after you applied?;
(2) did they notify you when your application went complete, or did you have to call to receive that information?; and
(3) how did they notify you of your acceptance (email, phone, mail, etc.)?

I had a weird circumstance because my schools academic support office was being difficult about me transferring out and forgot to send out some paperwork. So i submitted late April and I followed up late May and they said they never received a form from my school I called and had them fax it over and was admitted the following day. My grades weren't great - I think I only got in because I wasn't making a very large jump and talked about my ties to Austin.

How much money are we talking here? Also, are you a TX resident. $33k is much more defensible than $50k per year in tuition. What if you end up below median? Would you be comfortable with taking on the extra debt for the likely outcomes of below median students? These are all things to consider.

Might come under fire here, but I think its safe to assume if one has gpa needed to transfer law schools, you do not have to assume median when making calculations on whether to transfer or not. This depends a little bit on how highly ranked you are, granted. However, as a general rule, I think it is safe to assume a transfer student will graduate above median.

assuming you approach 2L and 3L with near the same vigor you approached 1L.

I wouldn't make that assumption necessarily--too many factors involved.

timmyd's assumption was based on his own experience, which by and large jibes with mine, but is an admittedly small sample.

Today I received an email from UT stating that my application is almost finished, and all that is left to do is the Skype interview. Does anyone have any experience with these interviews?

I transferred last year. Interviewed in person but Skype will be the same I imagine. Was extremely casual. Basically just chatting. Have something to say about why you want to be at UT and why Austin in particular is about the only real question I can remember being asked. I think they may have also asked what I planned to do after law school but I gave a very noncommittal answer and it didn't seem to faze them at all. Assuming it's the lady who did my interview last year (Monica Ingram) she is super nice and there's no interrogation or anything of that sort.

I don't believe they did interviews in 2013 at all (not for most of us anyway). Last year's thread has some talk about the interviews. http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 7&t=232077

Thanks for the responses. So, correct me if I'm wrong, this is essentially a final screening? That is what I am inferring from past threads.....anyone's feedback to my assumption may ease the pain and anxiety haha.

I have one set up as well. I think that it's just a final screener to make sure you're not insane or something. I've read through most of the UT threads on the forum and I remember seeing that they're interviewing the people they want to extend offers to. I imagine they don't just interview everyone who applies like Northwestern.

My suspicion is also that it's a final screener. Also, I suspect they want to see how you do in an interview in large part because -- as a transfer -- your main contribution to UT stats is going to be in job and clerkship placement. Interviews play a key role in both.

I think Bvest is spot on here. I am unfamiliar with this interview process, but it can't be a bad thing in my estimation. Good luck everyone, and should you get in and have questions on the transition and increase in competition, there are multiple UT transfers on this forum.
