Useful rank information for UT students.

Post by Ken Kesey » Sun Apr 12, 2015 8:59 pm

Since UT leaves us in the dark with ranking until giving awards (summa, magna, coif, chancellors), I decided to find out the GPA cut-offs. Data is from 2014 apparently. You can change the date of the link to see other years.

ACADEMIC AWARDS
Name of Award No. Awarded Selection Process
Chancellors 16 3.93 GPA required
Order of the Coif 10% Top 10% of graduating class
GRADUATION HONORS
% of Class Receiving GPA Required # of Students
Order of the Coif: 10% 3.81 37
Summa cum laude: 1% 4.07 3
Magna cum laude: 4% 3.89 15
Cum laude: 30% 3.58 112
Other: Chancellors 3.93 16

So those estimated rank calculators lose accuracy around the tails of distribution from using my personal stats.
The estimated rank (using those calculators) for me is around 5% when it's actually closer to 1% based upon this data. Although there's a difference between graduation and 1L grades.
