BUY FEDEX NOW BUY BUY BUY
I have faith in our federal postal system. I'll just put two stamps on it so it will get there twice as fast.

EDIT: Just got another mailing from Duke (they send soooo much stuff!). The deposit does have to arrive no later than April 30th, so it seems they are answering my questions now by mass mailings to everyone.

Dear Duke,

Can I get more scholarship monies?

Thanks,
Jeric

Also, they sent a deposit reminder letter that recommends FedEx or UPS for mailing your deposit...unfortunately I got that letter the day after I had already mailed mine by USPS. Definitely worth the extra money (~$25 overnight from Chicago) to save hassle and put the mind at ease. And if you plan enough ahead, you can send a FedEx envelope to arrive on the third business day and save a lot on the shipping costs.

Got it a couple weeks ago.

For anyone who has sent a scholarship negotiation email, how long until you got an answer?

I got emailed back the next day; apparently the committee is going over them over the next "couple of weeks". Fingers are crossed.

Yeah, I got a response 30 minutes of office hours, since I sent it in after hours. I'm just wondering when the answer will be coming...

What if I am using scholarships where the deadline to deposit is the 16th? Will they laugh and let me know I get nothing on the 17th?

Judging by how long they took to send you the Durham packet, you are getting nothing.

I'm kidding of course.

Hi, is your deposit due by the 16th as stipulated in your scholarship letter? I called the office today, and they said that seat deposits are due April 30th... I asked her about the 16th for scholarships, but she didn't know. Any info would be great!

Thanks

Nope, I am talking about the deposit deadlines for other schools. My Duke scholarship letter says 'please fill out this form and send it to us by the date given in your acceptance letter' and my acceptance letter says April 30th.

Maybe they send you an old scholarship letter by mistake? Or maybe you are looking at the wrong school's scholarship letter? Did you get a special scholarship like a Mordecai or something?

And that doesn't even include the golf cart, which is a must for most people when playing a full 18! $25 isn't bad for a half decent course, but you could probably find a muni or other public access course in the triangle for $30 or so with cart...

For those who have sent negotiation e-mails, what did you do? Did you attempt to leverage another offer, or just to request a little more?

No I meant $25 to overnight my seat deposit to them is too much. $25 for a day of golf is great, $45 with the cart.

I attempted to leverage another offer (no response yet). My impression was that Duke isn't as willing to negotiate as some other schools, so I'm not sure if a simple request will get any results.

Just sent off the reimbursement letter for the travel stipend (almost forgot about it!). It reminded me of how much I loved the place.

If I finally decide I'm gonna be there this fall (very high chance) then I'm going back for four days at the end of April to look for housing.

I did all my searching during the ASD weekend, so I was really rushed. I don't think I did too bad, though. I know you're looking for a house, but check out the complex I'm in. You can carpool me to class :D

My wife is REALLY not wanting an apartment. That place did look nice, though. Also, get a car you bum.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
