I don't really care where we go, but it'd be nice if we can keep it sorta close to my hotel.

As a black man I am obligated to say don't go to Mothers.

Several black men (seniors at washington university in st. louis) were victims of discrimination there. WUSTL's student newspaper link with details below:

*edit: Mothers Too is owned by the same people. Actually I think Hangge Uppe is too. a lot of bars in the viagra triangle and surrounding area are.

I'm not terribly surprised by this.

I questioned a bouncer at Shenanigan's about their posted dress code, which I read as basically being "no black/'urban' fashions" and he essentially admitted that the dress code was targeted at a specific group with whom the bar had had trouble with in the past, including altercations with other patrons, and essentially hurting business. That area relies a lot of white suburbanites traveling into the city for a night out, so it is probably in their best economic interest to keep out elements that drive off their main customer base.

It would not shock me if similar treatment happened at many other bars in that area.
i don't argue that it wasn't economically justified or "good business sense". acting in the best interest of your business, however, does not always go hand-in-hand with what is moral / legal or justify your treatment of specific groups. Not that you implied the contrary.

I'm with you. I think the details are in the article, but for those that didn't read all the details here's a summary:

Bunch of white kids and 6 black kids from WUSTL go to Mothers for some event that they set up with the bar.
Mothers lets a bunch of white kids in.
Mothers tells the black kids their jeans are too baggy.
White kids that haven't been let in yet and has skinny jeans on trades jeans with black kid when he finds out what happened.
Mothers lets the white kid in that is wearing baggy jeans (which are even baggier because the white kid is smaller)
Mothers still tells the black kid he cannot come in.
Other black kids offer to change clothes, put on slacks, etc.
Mothers says don't bother, we still won't let you in.

This is what gave them the leverage to try to show this was racial discrimination.

Better places in Gold Coast (same block-ish as Hange Uppe, Mothers, and Mothers Too):

Butch McGuire's (the best place, but not as cheap as the others)
Finn McCool's (like Butch McGuire's but cheaper and not as cool; crappy club upstairs)
McFadden's (the food is terrible but the drinks are cheap; best place to dance)

None of the above are owned by the Hange Uppe/Lodge/Mothers/Mothers Too people.

I've heard that Northwestern asks scholarship recipients who get the full ride to defer and work for a year sometimes, but if you receive a very small scholarship, or if you receive nothing at all and pay sticker at NU, and you have little to no work experience, are they also known to ask you to defer for a year and work? I've been admitted for a month now and so far I've heard nothing from NU asking me to defer for a year/work (don't think I'll get a scholly), and I would think if they asked me to defer after enrolling and withdrawing other apps that would be pretty shady on their part. Anyone have any thoughts/knowledge on this?

Probably the only person in this thread interested in this, but I recently found out that Northwestern is one of the schools involved in the Miami Law Consortium, where most of the big Miami firms go and do interviews. I find that quite nice, although I wonder whether it conflicts with NU's OCI.

Hey everyone! So excited to post here. Just got in today. What's up with scholarships? I know I'm not getting FAFSA or Need based aid, do I have to apply for all three types to even be considered?

I wish someone would ask the twitter account when they would notify the AJD candidates that are on hold about their decision.

So will I.
I'll be there, considering getting hotel even though I live in the suburbs because it seems like people from TLS want to go out drinking.

I'll be there also.. me and my wife are probably flying up on either Wednesday or Thursday, and staying through Sunday afternoon. We were thinking of going up now, and then again in April, but decided because of the costs of flights we would just do one extended trip for the ASW. Extremely excited to romp around with my TTT ug on my chest/nametag.

Edit: Flight and hotel booked.. gonna be up there from Wednesday through Sunday..

I'll be there as well, with a friend from my UG in tow (who was an ED'er). Luckily, I already live downtown so I don't have to worry about hotels.
