I think it would decrease your chances. Putting a deposit down doesn't merely demonstrate interest; it demonstrates you've made your decision. That's not what you want UVA to know when they're choosing who to give scholarship money to.FeuerFrei wrote:Do people think putting a seat deposit down early (before March) would increase or decrease your chances at $$$? Would this send the signal that you're definitely going and they don't need to entice you, or would they want to give money to someone that has demonstrated an interest?

This is true, but since I applied ED I figured I had arleady demonstrated my intentions. Went ahead and took care of it.Cavalier wrote:I think it would decrease your chances. Yes, but they do that because they intend to attend the deposited school if they can't get off the WL elsewhere.FeuerFrei wrote:I thought it was not uncommon for people to put down a deposit while waiting out a waitlist offer?Cavalier wrote:I think it would decrease your chances. Indeed, waitlist is a slightly different situation than accepted and hoping for scholarship money.
I wouldn't pay the deposit yet if you're looking for $$$

I have a question about Ivy Gardens. I'm not sure I want to pay for cable TV next year but was assuming I'd need to get my own cable internet package. I read that Ivy makes you pay for utilities in a bundle, does this include cable tv and internet? Or is that just handled thru Comcast?
Thanks
Thanks

On a different note, do any of you have any info how the average student indebtness after graduation from UVA Law according to US News is only in the high $70k?
I've read that UVA tends to spread out its aid more evenly, but then some of us are thinking that we are paying full sticker here. Based on both those factors, I have a hard time making sense of the low debt.
Any input?

I imagine many UVA grads in past years worked a paying job at a law firm at least one summer and put the money toward student loan reduction, even if they had no intention of working at a firm when they graduated. Sadly that's not as much an option as it used to be.whattodo2008 wrote:On a different note, do any of you have any info how the average student indebtness after graduation from UVA Law according to US News is only in the high $70k?

Insightful.YCrevolution wrote:$30,000 a summer can basically help cover a semester of law school (including living expenses for the summer and the semester). As vanwinkle said, these jobs have become a lot more scarce. I'd also guess ~10% of my classmates are taking out little to no debt due to someone else footing the bill.vanwinkle wrote:I imagine many UVA grads in past years worked a paying job at a law firm at least one summer and put the money toward student loan reduction, even if they had no intention of working at a firm when they graduated. Re: UVA Class of 2013
Was santa good to anyone else? I got Modern Warfare 2 and Borderlands. I figure there has to be some other xbox 360 owners here in the thread (maybe not, but probably). With that in mind, can we get a TLS UVA Xbox live gamertag sound-off going?
GT: Joeshmo39
I have MW2, Borderlands, Halo 3, NHL 10, Fight Night Round 4
If enough people have gamertags, we can set a night in the next few weeks to all sign in, group up and play. Also, I'm pretty terrible at MW2, but I'd still play, so everyone step up.
The PS3 people are encouraged to put up their gamertags and form their own cult community. Also, if you post your PS3 tag, you're opening yourself up for me to move into your apartment early September and play Uncharted 2.

i've been out of commission for the past 2 weeks with the Red Ring of Death...but ill be back on xbox in a week or so
gt- ios tarheel2
as for scarcity of summer firm positions...i think top 50% or so is ok, especially if you keep your options open instead of only insisting on a v10 firm in NYC or DC

Thanks,YCrevolution wrote:Also, Jeffersonian Apartments applications are now available here: --LinkRemoved--

As Kathy notes on the webpage, DO NOT submit your application before January 1st.
Do you know how likely it is to get an apt at the Jeffersonian if you submit on the first?
Also, do you know when ivy gardens apps will be available?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
