Re: UVA Class of 2013
this might be a stupid question but: what happens to the people who end up at the bottom of the class? do they still get to practice law and find jobs and what not? lol, it might be me one day so i'm just curious. does having graduated from UVA (albeit at the bottom) have any value in itself? or should you have dropped out and found another career, and if so, at what point? (assuming that you really /do/ want to practice law, and prefer it as a career over other stuff).

Re: UVA Class of 2013
yeah i really don't want to do anything other than law. the whole reason i ended up at law school is because i already tried out a bunch of other stuff and didn't like it. so i know this is the field i want to make a living in. i just wonder if, worst case scenario, i'll be able to find a job in the tri-state area (i'm from NY and want to live there after LS), and not podunk.YCrevolution wrote:During a good economy (circa 2006/07), bottom of the class still does pretty well (biglaw). Otherwise, I guess it depends on how much your JD is costing you and what else you want to do. Last year, a number of people with good grades struck out at OGI; OGI is going better this year, but certainly not the glory days of 2007.

Your post has a typo, you mistakenly put humor and LRW in the same sentence.slider wrote:Throwback (if you're up from some LRW humor):

when they say "while this sort of thing might fly at Syracuse, or even at Harvard, it won't here, and you'll be out of here so fast you won't even have time to collect your softball mitt and popped-collar-polo" what are they talking about? the seriousness with which uva takes lrw?slider wrote:Throwback (if you're up from some LRW humor):

Nope. The seriousness with which we take The Honor Code. Plagiarism is a huge no-no, and the only remedy available under the "single sanction" system is permanent expulsion.plum wrote:when they say "while this sort of thing might fly at Syracuse, or even at Harvard, it won't here, and you'll be out of here so fast you won't even have time to collect your softball mitt and popped-collar-polo" what are they talking about? the seriousness with which uva takes lrw?slider wrote:Throwback (if you're up from some LRW humor):

I still get UVA E-mails, and apparently Professor Coughlin is doing a "How to take law school exams" lecture at 5:15PM tonight in WB126. You should all go to this. Seriously. She's awesome if you've never had her before, and she gives good advice at those things. It's well worth your time.

Indeed. It appears that the section I'm in isn't the only one with just one grade at this point. Not amused.soullesswonder wrote:bump...these riots in Tunisia and Egypt are giving me ideas as to how to respond to the continuing lack of grades
Also, how is everyone else weathering the Great Blackout of 2011? I'm actually not going to be happy if this goes on long enough for my food to spoil. My first blackout, first parking ticket, first encounter with a bro...it's the wealth of experiences you bring, Charlottesville, that makes me love you so.

edit: I read it was 3.68.RVP11 wrote:Top 10% is roughly 3.65BruceWayne wrote:We really do have a tight curve. Eh, getting grades is going to be really interesting. Is top 10 percent a 3.6 or a 3.7? The trick with bidding DC is that it's a good way to end up with like 10 interviews even though you have above-median grades.
