Your guys' over fascination with shoes in this thread is lolzy considering I've seen just as many people wearing shoes with no laces as shoes with laces at OCI.

Since I feel like being nice: the receptionist will generally have a place for your luggage (assuming you have luggage). When you leave for lunch you can also ask him/her to hold on to your padfolio for you and then retrieve it when you leave.HLSTransfer wrote:For callbacks, do people just tend to bring a padfolio? Or leather briefcase w/ padfolio in it?
I'd rather do the first, but then I'm worried what to do with it during lunches, cocktails, etc.
Thoughts?

Every time someone posts something like this in this thread, the mods should give them the option of either going through every page of this thread to identify each time someone made a "OCI attire doesn't matter" comment or taking a three week ban.Flips88 wrote:Your guys' over fascination with shoes in this thread is lolzy considering I've seen just as many people wearing shoes with no laces as shoes with laces at OCI.

Orientation reception last night. Pinstripes and ill-fitting suits out the wazoo.

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
I'm trying to figure out what to wear for callbacks. Ive got a gray suit and a white shirt, but non of my ties are solid colors. Is it important that I wear a solid color tie? If so, what solid color tie should I purchase?
Also, I generally wear black shoes and a black belt with the gray suit. Is that correct?
Sorry if these questions have been answered - I'm fashion illiterate and this thread has gotten a bit long to search through.

You don't need a solid tie. In fact, if you're wearing a solid grey suit and solid white shirt, your tie needs a pattern. The recommendation in this thread has consistently been pindots, but houndstooth is also nice and stripes can be acceptable sometimes.transfer2014 wrote:I'm trying to figure out what to wear for callbacks. Def no need to stick with a solid tie. Sure, it's a safe bet if the color matches, but you can of course wear a pindot, stripe, etc. tie without any problem.transfer2014 wrote:I'm trying to figure out what to wear for callbacks. Thanks for the help. I generally go with a maroon and black checkered tie. That work?
Also, black shoes and belt the right way to go?

The only thing that's bad about those is the bicycle toe. Better to get a rounded toe.JetsFan1990 wrote:hahahah I don't think they are too bad, but funny comment nonetheless.portaprokoss wrote:I wouldn't trust someone wearing those shoes.Georgia Avenue wrote:I have a pair of these: --LinkRemoved--

Black is the right color, but the more important question is what kind of shoes? Also, can you link to a pic of the tie / a similar pattern?transfer2014 wrote:Thanks for the help. I generally go with a maroon and black checkered tie. That work?

That is the tie.
On the topic of shoes, my shoes are pretty terrible. They are $30 dress shoes from target. Any suggestions for an upgrade?
Edit: Sorry for the giant picture. I have no idea what I am doing.

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
For the tie, I would avoid that and go with this (click to go buy. It's only $15):
For the shoes, you need a black lace up captoe (no square toes, no loafers). Allen Edmonds Park Avevnue are the gold standard. You can get by with Johnston and Murphy or Bostonians, but be wary because these won't last very long if you're wearing them frequently.

If he's going to go buy a new pair, might as well guide him in the right direction.kwais wrote:lulzInGoodFaith wrote:For the shoes, you need a black lace up captoe (no square toes, no loafers). I guess that's right, but we've reached the level of group think to where now, J&M shoes don't last, and we "need" a certain shoe. I've already been yelled at for pointing this out, so I'll bow out here. Carry on.InGoodFaith wrote:If he's going to go buy a new pair, might as well guide him in the right direction.kwais wrote:lulzInGoodFaith wrote:For the shoes, you need a black lace up captoe (no square toes, no loafers). What other color ties go with Navy Suit/White shirt? I have the burgundy pindot but need another for callbacks.

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
I see what you're saying, and I think IGF came on a little strong. Nothing wrong with J&M, although it is inferior to the AE. If someone asked "What shoe do you recommend I spend my money on for OCI?" I'd give the same answer though... a black captoe, ideally the Park or 5th Avenue. If you're going to spend $100+, might as well spend $200+ and get shoes of high quality that will last. If someone already has a decent pair of square toes, then it is probably no big deal (though still ill-advised), but if someone is thinking about going out to buy tomorrow, captoe is the better option.kwais wrote:I guess that's right, but we've reached the level of group think to where now, J&M shoes don't last, and we "need" a certain shoe. As for this whole "loafers are fine" thing that keeps getting brought up ad nauseum (see flips' lulzy post above), loafers are not fine. There are some things that can be deviated from the norm without much risk, but this is not one of them. Loafers with a conservative suit look silly and out of place in 90%+ of situations, and OCI is a situation that falls on the far end of the silly spectrum. There are many people who would say NEVER wear loafers with a suit. I won't go that far. But they are simply too casual for OCI, and that's what this thread is about.
