Re: clerkship bonuses at boutiques
Most boutiques are offering $75K-80K clerkship bonuses. A few (Susman Godfrey, Hueston Hennigan, Holwell Shuster, and others) are offering $110K-125K.

The only boutiques I know of with above-market clerkship bonuses in those cities are Kellogg ($175k) and Susman ($125k for one, $150k for two). Both also pay above-market EOY bonuses and have other significant cash benefits like 401k contributions. The other prestige boutiques pay the usual clerkship bonuses. Less prestigious lifestyle boutiques will either not pay clerkship bonuses or will pay below-market ones.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 9:32 amanyone know clerkship bonuses at boutiques in DC and NY like Wilkinson, KKL, etc.?

Hueston Hennigan also pays above-market bonuses at the 125/150 rate. As for places like KKL, which is not really like a Wilkinson or Susman, I don’t think they even pay market rate for salary? I’m not sure, but I think the trade-off is that you have a much better shot at becoming an AUSA, but you make less money.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 4:35 pmThe only boutiques I know of with above-market clerkship bonuses in those cities are Kellogg ($175k) and Susman ($125k for one, $150k for two). It's been a few years since I got an offer there, but it was $75k for two then.

Not sure if right thread, but anyone notice that Cravath appears to pay a 125/150 clerkship bonus now? This feels new.

Weird because I know someone who got an offer this year and had the same 50k bonus offer. Maybe it’s prospective for next year?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 7:36 pmNot sure if right thread, but anyone notice that Cravath appears to pay a 125/150 clerkship bonus now? This feels new.

dont know what clerkship your friend did but maybe it was not a "qualifying clerkship"? Maybe cravath only does this for district and circuit court, but not bankruptcy and magistrate or something. If your friend did an art. iii clerkship then yeah maybe the policy was updated after your friend got the offer. If the offer is still open they should be able negotiate to 125 because that's the actual policy lolAnonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 12:56 pmWeird because I know someone who got an offer this year and had the same 50k bonus offer. Wonder what, if any, impact this will have on the market. As far as I know, no generic Big Law (depending on how you categorize Quinn) has moved from their 50/75 clerkship bonus for about a decade. And makes me wonder about the previously above-market bonuses from lit boutiques that are now Cravath standardAnonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 7:36 pmNot sure if right thread, but anyone notice that Cravath appears to pay a 125/150 clerkship bonus now? This person was an article 3 circuit clerk who received an offer letter a few weeks ago. Unclear when the policy changed. Very sus for them to pull that on someone?jotarokujo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 1:18 pmdont know what clerkship your friend did but maybe it was not a "qualifying clerkship"? Seems to be new and they didn’t notify incoming clerks (source: friend clerking now / going to Cravath also wasn’t told). But it seems to apply to “incoming associates” so assume they’ll get the benefit of the increase?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 2:35 pmThis person was an article 3 circuit clerk who received an offer letter a few weeks ago. Per Above The Law, Cravath increasing their clerkship bonuses just happened. Maybe more firms will move to match them?

When Cravath says qualified clerkships recieve the bonus do you know what they mean. I feel like if they meant federal they would just say that, but instead they say qualified. Anyone know what non-federal ones are included.

Offering only 50k for federal clerks right now is so weak. No wonder so many more clerks are choosing options outside of traditional biglaw now.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 10:40 amhttps://abovethelaw.com/2024/03/cravath ... s-that-is/Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 2:35 pmThis person was an article 3 circuit clerk who received an offer letter a few weeks ago.
