DC Firms Clearinghouse

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 02, 2014 5:47 am

With full knowledge that schedules and timelines will vary by school (even within the same firm) let's get a DC thread going. Here's info I have. The list of extended offers is from other TLS threads, all the other info is first-hand from conversations or interviews with people at those firms.

Have Extended Offers:
Jones Day
Skadden
Quinn (duh)

Have Stated they Won't Do Pre-OCI Callbacks/Offers off Mass Mails:
Jenner (will do phone screeners)
Kirkland & Ellis

Have Started Interviewing in Some Capacity, offer status Unknown:
Kellogg Huber Hansen

Anyone else got movement?

Kellogg doesn't have a summer program right? So their interviewing is just people currently in clerkships?

They do have a summer program, I interviewed in the last month or so. They don't publicize it or do OCI anywhere.

For context/data point: 2nd in class, LR at DNCG.

Summer class is exclusively for people splitting (or at the very least, those certain to do clerkships) though isn't it? It's similar to the Susman model, I believe, though I've heard of people staying for much longer than the 4 weeks you get at Susman.

Quoted Anon Here: They STRONGLY encourage splitting, but nobody told me about any enforced limit on time spent there or that it was a hardcore requirement.

And yes, since they hire only federal appellate clerks (SAs don't get fulltime offers, they have to reapply after clerking), I don't think they'd give someone an SA position who wasn't essentially certain to clerk based on their stated goals and credentials.

Additionally, BUMP. Anyone heard of other interviews/offers rolling out?

What does this mean? I emailed them a couple weeks ago and haven't heard anything. Does this mean they won't reply until after their OCI is over?

Quoted Anon Here:

As I understand it, it means that they won't make callback decisions on mass-mail candidates before their standard OCI process STARTS. Once the process starts though, I believe mass-mail candidates are brought up for review by the relevant hiring people basically on the same terms as OCI candidates.

Contrast this with Crowell & Moring, which won't review mass-mails submitted before September 10, after the OCI process ENDS (if you send your materials before that you get a form email informing you of this policy).

Shitting my pants right now waiting for Cleary DC to let me know whether I'm getting an offer or not. They said I'd probably know by today.

If you are waiting on Cleary, you'll probably get something else anyway. You shouldn't be shitting your pants over a particular firm. Good luck thoughl.

Glad to see this thread (and sorry that I didn't see it before). Thus far I've had interviews with:

Sheppard Mullin (invited to dinner afterwards)
Venable
Williams & Connolly
Sullivan and Cromwell
Latham
McDermott
Brown Rudnick
Morrison & Foerster
Groom Law
Schiff
O'Melveny
Milbank

Still have interviews ahead of me at:
Jones Day
Troutman Sanders

Outstanding mass mails at about 20 other firms.

I haven't heard a damn thing (in terms of dings or CBs) and I started interviews on Monday. I'm eating all of my feelings.

Here is my current status with DC firms.

I've had screeners with and have been dinged by:

Cleary
Cadwalader
Wilson Sonsini

I've had screeners with and haven't heard about callbacks from:

Arnold & Porter (mass mail)
Covington & Burling
Sutherland Asbill
Baker McKenzie
Drinker Biddle
Bryan Cave

I've had callbacks with but haven't heard anything further from:

Reed Smith (mass mail, direct to callback)
mckool smith (mass mail, direct to callback)

I have upcoming screeners scheduled with:

Vinson & Elkins
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett

Also potentially hoping to get interviews with a few more firms, but have yet to set anything up yet.
