1L In-House & Fortune 500 Internships

Post by pottedplants » Mon Dec 30, 2013 12:24 am

Sup TLS,

Is there a general procedure for applying to 1L summer in-house options?

I've been researching companies that I would be interested in working for. Most of them have had legal interns in the past (via searching for Linkedin profiles for former interns) - but almost none of them have legal positions up on their career sites.

1. Is it simply too early yet for in-house positions to be posted?

OR

2. Do people mainly secure these gigs through mass-mailing the companies and seeing what they get back?

Interested in west-coast tech: Apple, Amazon, etc - but also energy/oil/gas.

Thanks!

Google's application has been posted since Dec. 1. They are supposed to start contacting ppl next month.

If I were you, I would make list of the companies you are targeting and try to contact a recruiting coordinator to see when/if they are hiring 1L's. I feel like mass mailing might work less well for this kind of company than with a firm, but I don't actually know (fellow 1L).

Most of my friends who did these got them through postings on symplicity. I always see facebook, HP, google, apple, etc. on there for hiring, so keep an eye on those. I almost never saw them posted on their own websites though.

Is this true for finance as well? Also interested in the bulge bracket.

Thanks for the reply. Anyone know how many people google takes? Or what people do there? The app is pretty vague.

Amazon has a school-year externship. I don't believe they have any summer programs, though I could be wrong. I knew somebody who attended University of Washington School of Law who did it.

Has anybody heard back from Google or Microsoft?
