Current 1L at V70 in secondary market - want to work in NYC?
Currently at main office of V70 in a secondary market - but for many reasons, including family and SO, I'd like to work in NYC for 2L summer and most likely, upon graduation. If I receive an offer after 1L, is it appropriate to ask for a transfer to NYC office, even though I don't know if I'd actually accept it? The NYC office is not that strong in my area of interest - so I'd really rather go elsewhere. How should I handle this at OCI - explaining why I don't want to go to the NY office of my current firm? Frankly, I'm lucky to have this job which I really like, since I am at median T14 (not in NY), but I really want to end up in NY at a big firm with a viable transactional practice.

Just do OCI and see what happens. Other firms will not be skeptical that you are trying to get a job at a different firm in NYC, and if they ask, your answer should be that you enjoyed working at your 1L firm but that you are interested in working in NYC at their firm after you graduate.
