Hi folks-
I feel fortunate to have a 1L SA for the second half of summer at my dream firm. (Texas boutique lit). I currently work about 30 hours while in school and it's killing me. Would it look awful if I didn't do any legal work for the first half of the summer and instead took either 1 or 2 classes so as to lighten my load for next year? (I will still have the same job and will still be working the same amount of hours).

You could just probably put Summer 2013 on your resume instead of precise dates, perhaps avoiding the perception problem

No one would care, even if you weren't taking classes in addition to the SA.

For your 1L summer, you could do the first half work, and volunteer a day or two a week somewhere, and call it good.

Re: Taking the first half of summer off?
I worked a "part time" legal job in the summer. It was three days a week, Monday-Wednesday from 8:30-noon. I listed it as I would any employment and never had any problems. No one asked me "Well, how many hours did you work?"
