Re: Husband just fired from large law firm after less 1 yr?!
why does the firm matter? It was one of the well known nyc firms...horrible, no sense of loyalty, no investment, no nothing, don't even get me started...

1. Get as much cash from the firm as you can. Don't just take the first number they offer you.
2. See if they will keep you on your benefits as long as possible.
3. Get any kind of medical checkups, prescription refills, glasses, whatever you can while you have insurance.
4. Stop spending money. Save every penny that you can.
5. How to find another job? It isn't going to be easy. Find out what kind of references he can get.
6. Get the firm to help you with outplacement. They should provide some kind of service.
In other words, don't just go quietly - fight for everything you need.
7 Start calling every headhunter in town. Call any contacts your husband has made.
This is the stuff that Latham (and other firms did) which is why it is called Lathaming. Firing people with no experience after less than a year puts them in a terrible position. Even if you can get in 2 years, it helps to lateral. That doesn't help your husband though.
I would be prepared for this to take a while. If he gets a job sooner it will be great, but there aren't many firms that have the need for 1st years.

If you have him out the firm they will get a ton of negative attention in the upcoming recruiting season which will provide a small measure of payback for the amount of pain they are putting you guys through. However, you are probably a flame.

EDIT: If people think it's bad for her husband, I'll edit it out. not sure they could pinpoint that it's him since he wasn't the only one though.

Despite what everyone says, edit that out immediately. You need to have them on your side right now. Out them after he has another job.nmr00 wrote:.....
I will edit this one too.

Geez, it is great that you only care about yourself here. You need to edit out the name from your post if you can. Or maybe a mod can do it. The firm will know who is talking shit about them and it could hurt his chances to get another job.Anonymous User wrote:Thank you so much. Also OP, I doubt your husband did anything wrong. Firm X (from rumors) has been stealthing tons of people like crazy.

Why? You don't think that firms fire people if they need to do so? Did you learn nothing from the past few years of stealth layoffs to keep the PPP high?Judge Philip Banks wrote:I smell a troll.
If there isn't the work, firms will fire people. Just remember, the partners don't need you to get the work done.

What do you guys think is worse: (1) No SA offer or (2) Fire JA in less than a year?
With the internet being like it is, I don't see how firms will be able to no-offer SA's anymore, or continue doing what Firm X just did... it is not worth it.
