Lavender Law 2012
Did a quick search (nothing substantial so I apologize if I missed something.
Wanted to get a LavLaw thread started.
Are you planning on attending? Have any experience with LavLaw in the past?
I have a specific question: Are recruiters able to pre-schedule interviews? I haven't registered yet but I was wondering if the program had an ability to upload a resume so that recruiters could pick top-candidates in advance? Anyone know?

I'm definitely going. I've heard it's a great event, and that it's a bit earlier this year than last. Since it's earlier, hiring might be a little more active at the fair since fewer spots will be gone already.

Went last year, had friends get jobs out of it. Will probably go again.

Does anyone know how 3Ls have fared at the job fair? I have a 2L SA but am interested in going to a different city.

Re: Lavender Law 2012
There are no pre-scheduled interviews, but I know 4 people at my law school (and there are possibly more) who got offers through LavLaw table interviews. Firms do consider it a serious recruiting event, and this was last year when LavLaw was significantly later than most on-campus interviews. Suspect it's helpful for 3Ls since otherwise it can be difficult to get face time with firms as a 3L (most are not scheduling OCI with 3Ls, even if they plan to eventually hire a few), and empirical evidence suggests face time makes a callback dramatically more likely than mass-mailing.
I've considered going at a 3L but probably will not; it was a blast as a 2L, but I ended up not going to the career fair because I got the offer I really wanted a few days before heading out there.

Do you know if your friends submitted any materials prior to attending or was it just a table-talk career fair kind of thing?volsi wrote:Went last year, had friends get jobs out of it. Will probably go again.

Table talk career fair. Most interviewers are sitting there sorta bored and are happy to talk. I had gotten the offer I really wanted the day before I flew out to LA last year (too late to cancel) so I just chatted with random people and went to panels.Aston2412 wrote:Do you know if your friends submitted any materials prior to attending or was it just a table-talk career fair kind of thing?volsi wrote:Went last year, had friends get jobs out of it. To the 2L that got an offer, can you give more information on what your stats were? Or who it was with?
Getting an offer from table talk just seems like such an odd thing in the OCI setting, just trying to get as much information as possible.

I didn't get the offer at the table. I got a callback after the table talk, which then turned into an offer. T30/top 15/20%/went in w a couple offers in hand. V30.Aston2412 wrote:To the 2L that got an offer, can you give more information on what your stats were? Or who it was with?

It's the same time as Michigan's OCI. Blah.
FWIW, definitely heard good things about hiring at LavLaw. Friend from undergrad got a V10 position going in with only V30-50 offers.

Sorry - didn't mean to imply that you received the offer at the table. That would be very weird indeed.Anonymous User wrote:I didn't get the offer at the table. Can any former 3Ls speak to their experience at LavLaw?

Let's get this thread going again! Any more 3Ls want to share their experience at Lav Law and/or tips?

If you already have CBs at a place, go up to the tables and chat; they'll almost certainly offer to take you to dinner and drinks to tell you about LGBT life at the firm. I got tons of free food and booze this way last year.Anonymous User wrote:Let's get this thread going again! Any more 3Ls want to share their experience at Lav Law and/or tips?
Also, if you don't have the grades for a firm normally, don't waste your short amount of time at the fair going up to talk to a firm. Wasting 20 minutes talking to a (bored) attorney at Gibson or S&C or DPW, who almost certainly won't give you a CB, is magnified by the fact you're missing out on firms that might hire someone in your grade range. Be as strategic here as you would bidding at OCI.
But also go have fun. Last year was a blast. Met a ton of people I still keep in touch with; both lawyers and law students.

How do we target firms that hire in our grade range? Or, rather, how do we know what their grade range is? I think I already bid on most of the flexible firms for my school's OCI.

Re: Lavender Law 2012
Would it be stupid of me not to attend as a LGBT, 3L, IP student with an undergraduate and advanced chemistry degree? I am contemplating a last minute decision to go...
Also, thoughts on the bar event Friday night...Do attorneys go as well? Could this be a good networking event with recruiters/attorneys?

Would any one be looking for a roommate for Friday night? I am going to stay with a friend in DC on Wed. and Thurs. nights, but she is heading out of town on Friday afternoon. I would be heading out Sat. morning so I would only need a place for Friday night. Thanks!!

It's my first time going to LavLaw. What do people typically wear for the sessions? I'm afraid of under/over dressing.

Is anyone staying Saturday night and leaving Sunday? I did that in case things were happening saturday night, but have no idea if everyone's going to be gone by then...

I am not attending this year but a lot of Georgetown's Outlaw is going to be there. I believe we are hosting a party, so welcome all and good luck!
