How long to hear back from screeners?
Had 2 last week, and am just curious if there is a certain amount of time that it usually takes to here back from biglaw firms.

Are you talking about a screening interview for a summer associate position, an entry level associate position, or a lateral position?

I've had different experiences depending on which region the firm is from (although I'm not sure if that's indicative or just coincidence). I know a lot of the times it's because people are sitting on offers while waiting back on something else.Anonymous User wrote:Had 2 last week, and am just curious if there is a certain amount of time that it usually takes to here back from biglaw firms.

Had 5 1L SA screeners.Anonymous User wrote:Had 2 last week, and am just curious if there is a certain amount of time that it usually takes to here back from biglaw firms.
1st Firm: Same day callback invite via email.
2nd Firm: Week later callback via phone.
3rd Firm: End of screener callback invite.
4th Firm: 2 week snail mail ding.
5th Firm: 3 week snail mail ding.
Across 4 different markets. It's still a small sample size but there's a pattern - in addition to the fact that a number of firm people I talked to (recruiters or screening attorneys) talked about how they want to move fast and solidify their classes sooner rather than later.

My screeners haven't led to any callbacks, but they have led to dings and offers.
1st firm: offer via phone on the next business day
2nd firm: it's been 4 weeks and still no word (aka ding). Heard through the grape vine they decided not to hire 1Ls
3rd firm: it's been 3 days
4th firm: it's been 1 day

3rd firm: it's been 3 days
4th firm: it's been 1 day

In my experience, the turnaround is generally pretty quick if you're going to get a call back, often within 24 hours.

3 Callbacks--all between 24-36 hours after screening interview (Only went to 2 and cancelled one after accepting an offer)
1 Rejection letter--about 3 weeks after screening interview

I've had rejections occur the day after a screener to three months later. I've also had callbacks granted the day of a screener to 2.5 months after (I didn't even follow-up, they called out of the blue).

Hm... Well, thanks for all of the detailed responses. Haven't heard a peep from either yet. I'll just assume they are dings so I'm not disappointed.

May as well get used to it. Screeners are overwhelmingly dings unless you have super high grades.Anonymous User wrote:Hm... Well, thanks for all of the detailed responses. Haven't heard a peep from either yet. I'll just assume they are dings so I'm not disappointed.

#1 in the class. I can be awkward sometimes, though. Definitely have some interviewing work to do.Anonymous User wrote:May as well get used to it. Also, I just found out that people have heard back from both of the firms already, so it's looking like I won't be hearing back.
