The best way to do this is, first, narrow down your choices to a few offers in hand. Then set up phone calls with alums who work at those firms to discuss what really went down the previous summer. (Or, even better, get in touch with one or two of the previous summer associates from that summer).

It's too easy for firms to game what shows up on NALP, and it's not very useful to know in general which firms have no-offered summers because, unless they're one of a handful of big market firms, very few firms give 100% offer rates.

IMO, if some firm no offered more than 1/3 of its SA's, then it's not worth applying to. But the above response is absolutely right.

Currently considering firms in Texas.

A lot of Texas firms no-offer at least a few SA's every year; some, quite a few. Last year, Fulbright & Jaworski (Dallas) only gave offers to 6 out of 10 and Haynes Boone only gave offers to 30 out of 40 SA's (10 no offers).

Does anyone know about TX no-offers from this past summer?

I've heard, anecdotally, that some of this may stem from the ability to split summers in Texas.

I think BB Dallas only no-offered 2 this year, both of which i heard were for good reasons.
I know Akin Dallas had 100% offer rate, Jones Day Dallas had 100%....Gibson Dunn Dallas 100%....VE Dallas 100%..... I've heard from several (TX) firms this year that since class sizes have become much smaller, it's more of a "yours to lose" situation. Of course this is communicated during recruiting, but still.

Any ideas about CA SF/SV no-offers? Or is this market generally 100% unless you do something colossally dumb or your work product is poor?

Wildly curious if anyone knows what Haynes & Boone's offer rate was for this summer in Dallas.

Covington seems to routinely no-offer 2-4 SAs, at least from 2009 to 2011. Anyone have an idea what the story is there?

I was told by multiple people from V&E and Fulbright (idk about BB) that the Houston offices had offer rates of 90%+.

I'm quite certain that Covington routinely has a 100% offer rate. Everyone I know who worked at Covington this past summer got an offer and they said that all SAs received offers.

had a MoFo interview mention, perhaps as a "just-in-passing" scare-tactic(?), that they no-offer people. This is Bay Area MoFo. No clue if that's true. :?:

A friend who SA'ed there and was no offered. S/he also said they told them straight up they were only planning to make two offers at the start of the summer... egregious IMO.

Someone mentioned Liskow & Lewis having no-offered SA's. I think New Orleans firms are very open about their inability to hire everyone in the class, but they give opportunities to more than they can accept and 2L's still agree to work there. The firms allow summer-splitting because of this. The economy causes them to be unable to accept permanently as many as might accept summer offers. I know how distressing it can be but it's just the money situation that is limiting them, not a desire to see SA's compete.
