I'm trying to decide whether it's better from a career-standpoint to consider joining NorCal firms which may not actually be that good IN NorCal, yet remain prestigious and well-regarded overall. I'm also contemplating CA-based firms like MoFo or Wilson Sonsini.
I would appreciate any views on Silicon Valley (and SF) offices of:
Weil
Simpson Thacher
Davis Polk
Paul Hastings
Skadden
I'm concerned about quality of life & prestige/career exit options. Ideally I want to do M&A work, possibly also work with VC/PE/startups.
While I intend to remain in NorCal, I'm from the north east originally and may want to go back there at some point.

Not to split hairs, but Paul Hastings is based out of LA.
From what I've heard anecdotally, Paul Hastings has the better quality of life. Simpson Thatcher and Davis Polk are better for M&A, though.
